As the sun starts to rise again, I realize how hungry I am. Skipping dinner last night was rougher than I thought it would be. We prayed the entire night and our knees are sore. Our neighbours, Vriasia, made an unbearble lot of noise last night: feasting that they didn't loose anyone this round. Which is one of the most direspectful things I have been through in while, because while they where feasting all night, we were mourning.
We walked into the dining hall for breakfast, all wearing our pearle white veils to show our loss. It's tradition in Lenathor to wear a long, light veil when you lose a loved one, so, traditionally we wear one here as well. We wouldn't be able to attent the funeral since we are still here to prove our worth in the Tournament. If we would stop now, it would have all been for nothing.
Minutes fly by as I sit my usual dining table and I don't really pay attention to the chatter around me. As I look up to meet eyes with the Illemis girl next to me, my heart hurts when I notice she isn't even sitting here. The Xesther sees my eyes filling up with tears. "That is what you signed up for," she says, a little quieter than usual. I look around the table, only eight people are sitting here: the Illemis girl died yesterday, just like the older Tasina guy. I don't respond to the Xesther and bow my head down again. I don't eat, I was hungry but sitting here I can't even think about taking a bite.
Tomorrows round wil be Vizrabel, which is in my favour. Lenathor and Vizrabel are the only families that - even though they dispize each other - can still go through the same door. Not because we like each other, but we both realize we have to hold our Families good reputation. Since we asked Vizrabel to show them around in Lenathor, I am somewhat hoping they will do the same to us. This way we can gain a little bit of inside of the people and their powers. But the Vizrabel on our table stays quiet.
After breakfast I walk over to Arwewyn, who has been thinking the same as I have: the Vizrabels should invite us to their city. But the three Vizrabels in the competition leave the breakfast hall without saying a word to any of the Lenathors. "It's disrespectful," says Aewewyn when we are back in our wing. "We just lost a family member!" She says eventhough Vizrabel just lost two.
We all sit down next to the fire place and warm ourselves. "We could just go by ourselves," I try but no one seems interested in doing so. "We cannot disrespect ourselves like that," comments the oldest of our team and I let out a hidden sigh. He's probably right but I really feel like visiting the city before we head there for their round.
After a short while, some of our team decide to go the library and Aewewyn wants to talk a walk in the park near the Oduxillium. So when I sit on my own in front the fireplace, I decide to go back home for a day. I stand up and walk to the portals. I show my bright tattoo's to the guard and am let through.
The sight of my own City makes my heart happier instantly. This is where I belong. I head to the temple where I grew up, visit a statue of Lenathor and pray some more. I also decide to visit my little sister, who has been watching every second of the Tournament. All citizen wear their bright white veils, as we lost someone yesterday.
I reach the place where I grew up and look for my sister. When she notices me, she walks over to me and hugs me. We don't talk much, we both know how we feel. We walk around in the white parks and sit down near a shining lake. "You did great yesterday," she says eventually and I thank her sincerely. We visit the Church where we used to do our volunteer work with the Elders and the Elder greet me respectfully. Before I leave they ask if they can do a short light-ritual with me, giving us the light in our hearts we need in dark times. We dance, preform the ritual and after a while I leave back to the Oduxillium with a restful feeling.
Today was a good day. That's the only thing going through my mind as I sit back down on the dinner table. All Lenathors still wearing their mourning clothes. Before the food appears, a Vizrabel Elder appears, ready to tell us what we can expect from tomorrows round. I notice I am not scared like I was two days ago for Zhairans round, but way more calm and ready. I have regained my hunger to show everyone how powerful Lenathors are.
