I was at one of the most famous and beautiful museums ever build; the British Museum. But I wasn't there to look at all to objects, I was there to steal one. Sitting on the glass plate of the roof, I looked down in the large hall under my feet. There was no-one there. I heard from Magneto someone else would come and try to steel the artifact, too. Later I figured out that it was the famous Gambit. I don't think he knows who I am, so that could be in my advantage. I looked at my watch. He was late.
I wondered, once again, why I was there. Sure, I was here for a very important man, but I've heard that before. People who will change the world, but never do. But why did it feel like it, like he was right. I wasn't complaining, I mean, he paid me a lot of money for this job. I sighed, if Gambit wasn't gonna show, there wouldn't be any fun in doing this job.

I quietly looked up from where I was hiding behind some trash bins, checking if those damned tourists were finally gone – which they were. I clenched my fists and dug my nails into my palms, to stop myself from getting too furious. Because of those stupid foreigners I was late and had to hide behind trash cans. Can you believe it? Me, the infamous Gambit, behind trash? With a deep, annoyed frown I got up, inspecting my clothes and dusting them off. Then I looked up again, this time to gaze upon the well lit museum. It looked gorgeous, it was almost a shame to break into it. I immediately shrugged that thought off, though; I wanted and needed the object so badly and tonight was a great opportunity, I couldn’t let it slip. Silent, though quick I started to make my way closer to the museum. I had given this job a lot of thought, considering that if one thing went wrong, the whole place would be surrounded by police within minutes. First, I’d had to get my ass up at that roof. The glass would be the easiest to get through and if when I’d get to the floor, I’d be in the exact hall I needed to be. Or at least, that’s what the maps told me. My plan had been to walk over to the museum, but excitement took over and I couldn’t help but run, my long coat waving behind me. Once I got to the side of large building, I looked around again, but no-one seemed to have noticed me. I swiftly climbed up the roof, then took a minute to rest.I quietly looked up from where I was hiding behind some trash bins, checking if those damned tourists were finally gone – which they were. I was tired of waiting and planned to go inside. I changed my mind, though. Why? Because I heard a sound. It was like someone was climbing up the building. I was about to hide, but realized there was nowhere to hide. So I straightened my back and waited. As he came up, he looked like he wanted to rest for a while. I frowned. Was this Gambit, or just some rookie that wanted to do mischief at the museum. He hadn't looked behind him and took a minute to rest. Then I wondered; why did I let him? I sighed and looked at the man again. "Hey!" I said. "Go find your own I'm-going-to-steal-spot." Let me tell you, I am not good in first impressions. I flicked my hair really quick, because that made me more confident then anything in the world. I had no idea why, but it worked and that was the point.

Some time passed and maybe it was the distraction from the slight ache in my fingers, caused by me hoisting myself up a few moments ago, but I didn’t hear the young woman move around a bit at first. I was just giving my fingers a good look, though not removing my gloves, as a loud voice startled me. ‘Hey!’ the woman said and I immediately turned around. Because of the darkness of the night, I couldn’t get a good look at her. With a little struggle I got up, carefully avoiding to step on my coat. When I was standing upright and faced her, she said: ‘Go find your own I’m-going-to-steal-spot!’ I looked at the woman and raised a questioning and annoyed eyebrow, as she just flicked her hair. ‘Excuse me?’ I snapped, offended and rather surprised by her tone. ‘Who do you think you are?’ I questioned right after that. I was taller than her, that was for sure, but she didn’t seem quite impressed. Without really noticing it or thinking about it, I crossed my arms over my chest, waiting for her to explain herself.

As he stood up and snapped at me. I wasn't even a little bit impressed. I mean, there was no-one I couldn't handle. He was taller then me, that was for sure, but it didn't matter. Length didn't matter, nor did my name. 'It doesn't matter who I am. It matters why I'm here.' I gazed upon his face, and wondered why he did this. I mean, I stole for the money, but I always wondered why others did it. He had crossed his arm over his chest, when meant that he didn't feel threatened. Still, it wasn't a smart move. I sighed. 'You are one dumbass of a homo superior, you know.' I hated the name mutant, so I never used it. I said that, not because his crossed arms, but because he hadn't yet discovered that this was already a illusion. I mean, I wasn't going to fight the man with out a weapon. He was dangerous and I wasn't dumb. 'I'm here for Magneto, just like you.'

Her question didn’t exactly clear things up, like he’d hoped. In fact, the woman only made it worse and I couldn’t help but sigh. I was having a hard time not to speak the exact words one my mind out loud, as they were downright cruel. While she looked at me, I tried my best to glare back, though I wasn’t sure if she could recognize it as a glare; the lights were still low. My raised eyebrow found its way back to the frown, with what she said next and I suddenly felt like slapping her, though my principle to not slap women, held me back. Perhaps this girl wasn’t as defenceless as some of the others I’ve met, but I was taller, heavier and probably stronger; it wouldn’t be a fair fight. 'I'm here for Magneto, just like you,' she said solemnly and more confusion hit me. How come she seemed to know so much about me? ‘I’m gonna ask you this one more time; who are you?’ I asked, sounding more confused as I’d hoped for and completely ignoring whatever she had said.

He sounded so confused and I couldn't help it, I had to smile. I knew what he thought, that he taller, stronger, more dangerous. Well, not on this moment. And when I thought that, I laughed. That was weird, because he wouldn't know why I was laughing. Suddenly I stopped and looking him strayed in the eyes. 'You really don't know who I am?' I asked. 'Good to know.' That wouldn't give him any information at all, and I wanted him to know my name. 'Ladrón,' I said. 'That stands for something we both are: Thiefs.' To be honest, I was already stealing the artifact on that exact moment. And it was strange that Gambit didn't seem to notice, because, well... I was lazy. The leafs of the trees didn't move, there were no stars and the illusion ended one mile behind him. 'Remy LeBeau, wasn't it?' I asked. 'Well, it doesn't matter. What matters, is the fact, that you walked into a trap and didn't even notice it.' And I smiled like an innocent little girl.

My frustration held me back from shrieking out so many questions. What in heaven’s name was she talking about? I had already figured she wouldn’t have been here for a quiet stroll through the park – or on top of the museum, but if she wasn’t, why was she here? I knew it was for Magneto, she told me, but why would the man send two different thieves who didn’t know each other? Well, she – Ladrón – seemed to know much more about me than I knew about her, but that’s not the point. I nodded when she asked for my name, surprised at how well I could keep my temper. I walked into a trap? What the... I just stared at her smile for a while, ‘till I started to observe the area around me. The dark sky... I had assumed it was just dark ‘cause of the lack of light – since only the front of the museum was lit, but stars were nowhere to be seen and nor was the moon. The breeze... a soft wind hit my cheeks and made my hair waver, but it didn’t move the leaves in any way. ‘What... did you do?’ I asked carefully, frustration now slightly turning into panic. I looked around a little more to make sure I wasn’t mistaking, but my observations still seemed correct.

To be honest, it was quite fun to watch Gambit. 'What I did?' I stepped closer towards him. 'I stole the artifact.' I waited a moment before I continued. 'And you are still on the roof. What a disappointment, you are.' The darkness from the sky was spreading, till everything around us was black. I turned my back towards him and slowly walked towards the darkness. 'The great Gambit, defeated while he was watching.' Suddenly I stopped and turned towards him. 'Magneto hired both of us, to steal the artifact. He needs the best of the best and we were the best of the common thiefs. To bad you lost, I wouldn't mind working with you.' I looked him in the eyes. 'This is all in your head, you know?' He was so confused, I could see it in his eyes, that I needed to tell him. I wasn't a nice person, but I didn't want to be the cause of someone's insanity. 'I'm sorry. I truly am.' Then I walked away, into the darkness and left him.

If I had forgotten I was standing on a damn roof, I’d take a step back, but I didn’t, I didn’t feel much for falling a couple of meters downwards. My arms fell along my torso and I felt completely and utterly helpless. I still didn’t get what she had done or if she was even talking the truth. How could she have stolen the artefact, while she had been standing right in front of me the whole freakin’ time? And when did I become a disappointment? My mouth was a tight line, my brows were furrowed. No words formed in my head to be spoken aloud. What she said next about Magneto did make sense somehow, but how come he didn’t know here before this, if she were that great as she said she was? Our looks locked for a moment, when she apologized – which was useless. I would’ve had appreciated an explanation way more, as I still didn’t have a clue. I just stared at her, as she walked away from me. Then, suddenly, a strong breeze hit my left cheek and I looked up. Stars were sparkling brightly again and I would’ve heard the leaves whisper in the wind, if the sound wouldn’t have been drowned by sirens, echoing in the distance. I cursed loudly, before turning around and getting down from the building. I didn’t know where to run; I just ran somewhere, still trying to understand what the hell had just happened. At some point I didn’t even care that much anymore, I just wanted my revenge.

I opened my eyes and started winking, to get the dizziness out of my head. It was so confusing to be at two places at the same time. I set on my couch, while watching the news. I didn't remember which news items had come before the one I was watching, but it didn't matter. I held the artifact in my hand and looked satisfied at it. It had been so easy. I though Gambit would have been more of a match for me, but he wasn't. I walked to the window and stared at the city. I figured Gambit would want his revenge on me, for humiliating him, but I wasn't worried. I mean, it was not like he could do something about me. The phone rang. 'Nicky here,' I answered it. 'Oh, hello. Yes, I've got it. When do I get paid? Sounds good to me.' I listened carefully. 'You want me to meet you where? Why there...?' I nodded, even though he couldn't see that. 'Okay, I'll be there.' I laid down the phone. Magneto wanted me to meet him at the London Eye. I didn't get why he was here, in London, but it didn't matter, as long  as paid me. Still, I couldn't get Gambit out of my head. I just felt, we would meet again.

Once I finally got to a save distance from the museum, I felt a rage coming up. How dare she humiliate me like that? I could live with the trick she played on me, but the embarrassment? Never. I was aware of the fact that I held lots of grudge, but I couldn't care less. She wouldn't get away with it, not that easy! I paced back and forth through my small, temporary apartment, thinking of ways to make her pay. I could, of course, just steal away her assignment... but then I had to get her on Magneto's black list, which wasn't exactly simple. I'd have to meet up with Magneto himself, not any of his buddy's; just me and him, face to face. I then snatched my mobile phone from the coffee table. My finger scrolled through my contacts, searching for the right one. If there was one thing I hated, it was calling, so I just texted the mutant I needed. We both didn't need more information than a place, a date and a time; exactly what I sent. When I had shoved my phone into of my pockets, I quickly walked outside my apartment, heading to the place we'd meet up; a simple square. From there I'd lead him somewhere no-one could see us. Within seconds I had thought out my whole plan and I smiled at myself, this could work out.

I had nothing to do, so I got a pack of cards and started to do some simple tricks. Somewhere I remembered one Gambit's favorite moves was with cards. I got one card and hold it like he would. I threw the card, but it fell on the ground, about five centimeters before my feet. That went well... I sighed and looked at my watch. I would meet Magneto in six bloody hours. What was I suppose to do until that? I put the news on and saw they had discovered that the artifact was gone. There were not whiteness and no suspects, just like always. Secretly I had hoped they would suspect Gambit, but they didn't. I could do more research on Gambit, but that would be useless. I already knew everything and I remembered the information on the same way I remember maps; with my photographic-memory. I looked at my watch again. This was going to be a long wait.

I fixed my collar and shoved my hands deep into the pockets of my coat, while walking fast, though unnoticed through several alleys. It was still dark out – the usual dark, not Lardón’s dark – but there were quite some people out, screaming and laughing loudly. I rolled my eyes at them, why would you be out on this hour, if you weren’t going to do anything useful? Some people don’t acknowledge the dangers out here. Neither did I, but I had my powers and most of the time I had my staff with me, though I didn’t bother to bring it tonight. I was getting closer to the square, so I checked the time at my phone. I would be right on time. After I had turned some corners, I saw the square. It was surrounded by small cafés and little stores, though they were all dark and abandoned. Soon I spotted the man – or should I say boy, he was rather young to be involved in the kind of business he was involved in – and I immediately walked over to him. ‘Gambit! Long time no see,’ the boy said nervously. ‘Quit the chit-chat, follow me,’ I snapped. I hadn’t stopped walking and kept up a steady pace. The boys footsteps sounded softer than mine and it was obvious he took smaller steps than me. When the alleys became the smallest, the darkest and the most silent, I stopped abruptly. ‘I need information on Magneto. Where he is, when he’s there, that kind of stuff,’ I spoke fast, but he seemed to understand me. ‘Hold on a sec.’ He took out some high-tec phone and started pressing loads of buttons. I didn’t even try to keep up with his actions, until he started talking again, telling me about some sort of meeting with some sort of person at the London Eye, in about six hours. I quickly thanked the boy, after which we both went our own ways again. I’d be there in six hours, at the London Eye.

I trew the ball against the wall. As it came back, I kicked it, so and hit the wall again. I don't know how long I had done that, but it had been long. I stopped to look at my watch. It was time! I smiled relieved. Quickly I got out of my hotel room. It was just over the bridge and then I would be at the London Eye. Because when I stay in a hotel, I'd like to be in the center of town. The London Eye was beautiful at night. It was lighten, but there was no one inside at this time. I looked around everything was deserted. I looked at my watch, I was on time, so where was Magneto? I got my answer almost immediately. The London Eye started to turn, even though nobody was there. Magneto appeared and asked me: 'Do you have the artifact?'
