It was at around eight O'clock in the morning on a saturday in June. Luna was awakened by the early morning sun that shined trough her flowered curtains. Slowly, her eyes opened until she stared at the ceiling, smiling. Luna had always loved saturdays mornings: No school, no annoying kids, no bullies, no cars. Just her and the calming forest. Now you might think that Luna like being on her own, but she didn't. She just did not like being around people and loud sounds all of the time. She much more preferred being out in the forest, Between the trees and the animals that lived out there. At times, it was like no-one understood her. That was okay, however, since she didn't completely understand herself either.

After a while, Luna sat up onto her bed as her had reached out towards te curtains. With one arm movement, she gently opened the curtains, after which she looked outside. Luna lived in the edge of the forest, which was in her opinion a very nice place to live. When she looked outside from one side of the house, all she could see were trees. If she looked at the other side of the house, however, she could see part of the city she lived in, and it was just a ten minute walk for her to get to the shopping mall or to get to school. It was a sunny day in the forest and as far as she could see, there weren't any clouds in the sky, which probably meant it was going to be a hot day. Perfect swimming weather.

As the sun shone through the peak in his dark curtains Castiel slowly woke up. The bright sun was shining on his face, making him groan as he opened his eyes. With a quick movement he ot up from his bed, not wanting to stay in too long. Whenever he stayed in bed too long he would fall asleep again and waste his entire day in bed. With a deep sigh he walked towards his windows, opening up the thick curtains and looking up at the sky, squeezing his eyes closed as he once again looked straight into the bright burning sun. Castiel wasn't a big fan of sunny days. He prefered rainy, or even snowy days where he wouldn't burn after walking around in the sun for three minutes. Often when the sun was shining brightly he just wouldn't leave his house. Which was why he lived in cold countries for a big part of his life. Recently he had moved to England, where he was living now. He quite liked being back in his homecountry after being away for a long while. Besides that, it wasn't very sunny that often in England. Of course the summers were warm, but it wasn't very warm for the rest of the year.

He quietly walked away from the window, out of the room and into his kitchen. Castiel often noticed that he was different from other kids. He didn't think much of it, but sometimes it was just really obvious how he wasn't like everyone else. He always blamed it on the moving. When he was little he never moved. The moving only started after the death of his childhood best friend. At that time it looked like his parents were running away from something. He never really tried to think about it but sometimes the thought popped up in his head and he just couldn't stop thinking. He often wondered if they were actually running, and why they would be running. In his opinion they didn't have a reason to run. But of course he didn't know everything. He barely knew anything.

After a while, Luna stopped daydreaming and got off her bed since she still had so much to do. It might have been a saturday, but that didn't mean she could sleep all day. She blinked a few times, after which she rubbed her eyes and yawned. "hmm.." she ten mumbled to herself as she walked towards her closet and opened the door to her closet, not sure what to wear. Not that she cared a lot about what other people thought about her clothes, as long as she liked it, it was okay. However, she did care about how it felt. Luna never wore tight skirts or mermaid dresses since she did not find them comfortable to walk in, let alone climb trees in, because that's what she did sometimes. You could say climbing was one of her hobbies, along with drawing, dancing and making music. Oh-- and some other things as well. Luna had a lot of hobbies, too many to mention right now.
Luna's closet was divided into different sections, just as a regular closet would: shirts, vests, trousers, shorts, dresses etcetera. She finally decided to put on some black shorts and a moss green crop top with her bikinis underneath just in case she would need them. Other than that, she just put on her black sneakers as usual.

Once Luna had changed clothes, she went downstairs to get herself some breakfast. She reached out her hand towards the fridge door, which she then opened. There usually wasn't a lot of food in the fridge since Luna only lived with her mom and her dad. They liked eating their food fresh so they never bought anything in advance, exept when they went on holiday or something like that. Hmmm... no yoghurt. She thought as she looked into the fridge. Well then, on to plan B. Luna then took out the cheese and two slices of bread and took those towards the living room. Sandwich time! Grilled cheese sandwiches always reminded her of the good old times when her parents used to take her on picknicks in the open field in the forest. This was, up and until today, her most favourite place in the world. Unfortunately, her parents stopped taking her on trips when she was about eight years old and she didnt know why. All she remembered is them mentioning the name of her childhood friend. She still remembered that day when her parents told her he had passed away. From a heart faillure or something, they said. Back then she had no idea what it meant, but now that she was older, she understood it all better. Unfortunately, she could not rememer a lot from him and the time they had spent together, but from the times she had been thinking about their childhood, she could tell that she must have had a lot of fun back then.

When he entered the kitchen he immediately went towards the fridge which he then opened. With one look inside he already noticed that there wasn't any food at all. He sighed deep, trying to remember how he forgot to go to the grocery store the day before. He then closed the door again and went into his room. He had to get ready to do some grocery shopping, he needed food after all. Ever since he moved here he noticed how hard it was to actually live alone. It wasn't a very normal thing for kids his age to live alone but his mum had passed and his dad was in the army. He was quite used to it and he didn't really mind. His dad had stayed home for a while after Castiel's mum passed away but it had been almost two years and it was time he went back to his work. They needed to get money in some way anyway. So when his dad had told him he was going back to fight for their country Castiel had taken the opportunity and moved back to the city where he grew up. Even though people said you could never really get over the death of a loved one Castiel had moved on quite soon after his mother had died. So soon even that it looked like he never loved his mother. Of course he did love her, but he just didn't see the use of it to grief over her while the world was moving on, he felt like he should as well.

After he arrived in his room he quickly walked to his closet from which he took a short sleeved button down and some basic denim jeans. He got dressed and put on his black vans after which he took his phone, keys and wallet from his bedside table and left the house. It was only a ten minute walk towards the nearest grocery store, but Castiel didn't like that store so he went out of his way and went to the one twenty minutes away from his house. It was a longer walk but in his opinion the store was a lot better and the people who worked there where a lot nicer. Ever since he came back he hadn't seen anyone that recognized him yet, even though he had seen people that he thought he recognized, though he couldn't be sure. It had been way too long. After walking in the burning sun for twenty minutes he finally arrived at the grocery store and he took a basket. He immediately made his way towards the breads and went to look for his favourite, corn bread.

Luna put the cheese sandwich into the oven and set the kitchen timer to ten minutes. That would be enough. Shen then pushed the start button and took her phone from the charger while waiting for the grilled cheese sandwich to be ready. Her eyes smoothly went over the messages and instagram posts, but there wasn't anything truly interesting going on. Just a couple of messages from her classmates and some selfies of famous people. Then something caught her eye. When she looked into her class's whatsapp group, she noticed that there was a new unknown number added. "Hmm.." She said asshe did not think a lot from it. Probably someone had a new phone number.

Once the kitchen alarm clock went off, Luna closed off her phone and put it back onto the table, after which she walked back towards the kitchen. She then opened the door of the oven and took her now warmed up sandwich out, putting it onto a plate and walking back towards the livingroom. She sat down onto the couch and looked at the trees outside. It was a mixed forest, which meant that there were both coniferous and deciduous trees, with some bushes, moss and grasses in between.

Once he got everything he thought he needed to get through the week without starving he went to the checkout. He paid for everything and took back home two bags filled with food and sanitary products. Then he started to make his way back home. While walking he started to get a little bored. He was annoyed by the sun and couldn't stand to enjoy anything from outside at that moment so he took out his phone. He opened the notification he got from Whatsapp. He was added in a new group and for a second he was really confused about it and tempted to get out of it immediately. But soon enough he realized that it was the Whatsapp group of his new class. This Saturday he would start on his new school and to be fairly honest he wasn't excited for it at all. He was somewhat scared that people recognized him, which was quite easy since he didn't have a very regular name. Why he was scared he didn't really know, but he just sort of didn't want to be recognized. And he didn't need a reason for himself to believe that it was actually normal to want that. He then clicked away the Whatsapp app and put his phone back into his pocket, already getting bored of that as well.

After another twenty minutes of walking through the hot town he finally arrived back at his house. It wasn't a very special house, just one of many. Though it was special for him. It was the exact house where he grew up, where he lived before his best friend died and his parents suddenly decided that moving was a good plan. Looking back at it he didn't really mind that they moved a lot, he had seen so much of the world at this young age and he loved it. Many places they moved to where because it was closer to where his dad had to fight to defend their or other countries. But after his mother died the places they moved to where to see the world and meet new people. Castiel always found it easy to communicate with people from other countries. To him it seemed like they all spoke English to him. He never really noticed how his dad had so much struggle trying to talk to the people, even when Castiel thought they were just speaking English. But of course, he didn't know that they were actually just speaking their own language, and he was speaking their language as well. His dad never wanted him to know, so he kept it as a secret. Even now Castiel still didn't know about his ability. But that was for the best.

Luna continued to look outside as she slowly brought the sandwich to her mouth. She then took a bite out of it and chewed on it for a while before swallowing it. It tasted good, but not as good as the sandwiches her mom used to make did. It didn't taste as good as before. It was like the taste of grilled cheese had changed, just like Luna's parents had changed. She missed them, the old version of them. She still remembered the times when her dad took her to school and she used to climb onto his back like a monkey. She remembered their happy faces whenever she looked at them. But that all happened before that day. Sometimes it felt like she wasn't who she thought she was before either. It felt like she was a ghost, not captured in the wrong body, but in a whole different world. Everything had changed. Luna actually felt sorry for her parents sometimes. Somehow, after all these years they still hadn't gotten over the loss of her friend. Not that she wasn't still sad about it, but she had decided to keep it behind her and not let it ruin the rest of her life. He may not have been there anymore, but she knew deep down that his soul was above there somewhere.

Luna sighed as she finished her sandwich, but then a smile appeared as she repeated that last sentence inside her head. Let's just make this day a good day. Luna thought as she stood up from the couch again. She then walked towards the front door and walked outside. "Mom. Dad. I'm outside I'd you need me!" She yelled softly, but loud enough for them to hear it. No reply, as usual. Luna still hoped that she would wake up one day and everything would be back to normal.

Castiel went inside and walked directly towards the kitchen. He emptied out the bags on the kitchen counter and went to put everything in the right place. Once he was done with this a few minutes had passed. He put the two, now empty, bags in one of the drawers in his cabinet and he went to make a sandwich. He wasn't very hungry so he just took a slice of bread with a slice of cheese on it and ate it dry. While he was absolutely no fan of the warm weather, he did want to go outside for the day. Because if there was one thing he hated more than too warm weather, it was staying inside all day and wasting your time not doing anything. So as he ate his sandwich he went towards the hall to check himself in the mirror. Soon enough he had finished the sandwich and fixed his hair. He decided to go towards the forest. Even though he was very young when they moved he still remembered quite a lot about the town. One thing in his memory was even so clear that it seemed like yesterday that he had last been there. There was an empty spot in the woods where there were no trees, a little pond and a lot of very green grass. He used to always go there with his best friend, whenever he was angry with his parents or his best friend needed him they would come there and be there for eachother. He still remembered this so clear even though it was such a long time ago. He would kill to go back to those days where his only problems were his parents not allowing him to have candy or go to the swimming pool. Those where the days.

With a soft smile playing on his face he left his house again. His house was quite close to one entrance of the forest, it wasn't around the corner but it was only a three minute walk which was basically nothing. As he walked he noticed that the entrance was actually a lot closer than he remembered, then he realized that he wasa obviously a lot longer than when he used to walk here. He was also faster so the three minute walk ended up being just a single minute. He went inside the forest and couldn't help but smile. The smell of trees and rain came in his nose and his day couldn't get better. It was going to rain soon and he loved that. He maybe hated warm days, but when the sun was shining and the rain was pouring it was perfect for him. It just felt so nice and everything about it felt almost magical. After a short walk through the woods he reached the exact spot he used to always visit. Carefully he sat down on a big rock facing the pond. If there was magic on earth he was sure this place was where it came from.

Once she had closed the door, Luna sighed. Then her legs slowly started to move forward -faster and faster- until she was running. She ran and ran trough the forest until she felt like she couldn't run any longer. Running in between the trees was something she loved doing. Not only made it feel her alive, it also made her think, it opened up her mind. She often did this to clear her mind whenever something bad had happened at school or at home. Once she felt like she couldn't run any further, Luna sat down against a big tree, her heart beating fast. She looked up at the leaves that growed high above her head. The green leaves that isolated her from everything that happened outsideof the forest. The green leaves that made her feel safe when nobody could. The green leaves that didn't judge her whenever she walked by. They weren't regular leaves to her. This was her home.

After a while, Luna had regained most of her breath, so she stood up again, climbed into the tree and looked around. She noticed that she had been running a circle and she now was all the way back to the open field near her house. It wasn't a very large field, but it was big enough for her. It had a pond, some big rocks around that and the most magical looking grass she had ever seen in her entire life. Words could not describe the beauty of this place, but what made it even more beautiful were the memories created here. Unfortunately, she couldn't remember a lot of them, but she remembered sitting here, having endless conversations with her best friend.

Castiel closed his eyes, enjoying the breeze cutting against his face. Every bone in his body was telling him rain was on its way and he couldn't be more excited. When he felt the first drop on his nose he opened his eyes, a smile playing on his face as bright as ever. He loved rain the way his father had loved his mother. The way he had loved being with his best friend when he was little. The way he loved seeing everything from the world and more. Rain was like his second home, and whenever he really needed to be happy rain would just appear. It could be the warmest day ever, but when he was sad it would just start to rain. Because rain was what mad ehim happy. It was almost like the weather wanted him to be happy, that's what he thought. More and more drops started to come and before he even knew it the rain started pouring. He stood up and walked towards the edge of the pond. Looking down into his reflection in the water. The smile on his face hadn't left and he didn't expect it to leave any time soon. He looked at the rain drops that came into the water and couldn't help but smile even wider. His smile was so wide that his cheeks started hurting. He truly loved rain like nothing else.

Carefully he sat back down again but this time not on the rock this time, just on the grass at the edge of the pond. He let his fingers run through the grass blades and looked down at the water. For a quick moment he thought he saw a reflection of someone in a tree in the water, but it soon disappeared again because of the rain drops. He decided not to think of it. For as far as he knew no one else knew about this spot. But the aiagn, a lot could have changed over the years. For all he knew this was the sleeping spot of multiple hobos. But he just liked to think of it as the way it used to be. His best friend and his spot, what no one else knew about.

As she was sitting in the tree, Luna felt something cold touch her skin. It was a water drop that had fallen trough the leaves and twigs from the tree, apparently it had started to rain. Luna looked up at the leaves as she felt several more drops fall onto het face and arms. It was the good kind of rain. Not just the ordinary rain she had to walk trough whenever she had to go to school, or whenever her parents sent her out to go to the supermarket. No, this time it was different. It was the good rain, the rain she felt back then. It was the good old rain from the good old days. Undescribable, yet wonderful. Luna had hated rain ever since the day he passed away. All rain she had felt since that day was rain without a meaning, a definition or a purpose. Not to her at least. She had stopped enjoying being out in the rain after that day, never really knowing why, allthough she had taught herself to accept it. This time it was different, however. It made her think about the good things in life, and for the first time in eight years time, she was truly happy while being in the rain. Luna closed her eyes as she smiled to herself.

It was about five minutes later once she opened her eyes again. It was still raining and her clothes were completely soaked by now. Not that she cared. She wasn't planning on interacting with anyone today anyway. It was just her, the forest and the rain. Luna kept smiling as she looked around. And that's when she saw it. A boy, probably around her age, was sitting in the grass next to the lake. Luna swallowed, not moving a muscle. Who was he and how did he get here? As far as she knew, Luna was the only living person who knew about this place. Guess she was wrong. But why? Why out of all places in the world, did he have to be here? Luna shook her head, closing her eyes again in hope that he would disappear, but he didn't.

The sound of the rain drops hitting the water took him back to when he was younger. He remembered the times when he and his best friend would go play outside in the rain. Although he knew his best friend loved the sun and the warmth, whenever he was with her, she seemed to enjoy the rain almost as much as he did. For Castiel it was almost impossible to be upset when it rained. The water drops just seemed to be able to always lift his mood. Maybe not always. Sometimes the rain gave him a certain uneasy feeling. The rain would take his mind back to the day he moved. The day after his best friend died. It was raining that day, he remembered it clearly. That was one of the first days in his life that he hadn't enjoyed the rain. He was crying all the way to wherever they went. He cried for days maybe even weeks. It's not nothing for someone that young to lose someone that important to him. He was only nine years old.

An uneasy feeling started to creep up on him. Not because of the rain but because he felt watched for a moment. He felt like someone was looking at him, even if it only was for a split second. Castiel had never liked the thought of people looking at him, even when he was in busy places. But it was worse when he was all alone. For as far as he knew, no living person knew about this place, so feeling like someone looked at him gave him goosebumps. He bit his lip softly as he carefully looked back to see if maybe there actually was someone standing there, looking at him. But he didn't see anyone. Even though this should probably relieve him, he only felt more uneasy. For a split second he got the crazy idea that maybe, just maybe, the ghost of his dead best friend would be here too, watching over him. But he knew that was impossible, and he didn't want to give himself false hope.

There was defenitely someone there and whoever it was, he knew. He knew about this place. But if he knew about this place, what else did he know? Did he find this place by accident or was there more to it? Luna looked at him in silence and watched as he turned around. He looked calm at first, but now he seemed rather nervous or even a little axious. She knew that he had probably somehow sensed her presence, too, by now. Luna hesitated for a while, not sure wether to stay hidden, or to show herself. Eventually she decided to get a little closer, the curious dumbass she was. She slowly stood up and climbed a few branches lower, making sure not to make any sound. Very gently, she then started jumping from branch to branch. At rimes like these, it was a good thing that she could climb not only fast, but also silent. At times it was like no one was even there. One of the advantages of spending a large part of her life in the forest was that she learnt how to blend in with it.

He turned back to the water and let his head drop, looking down on the pond. He loved seeing the way the rain drops landed on the water but right now, he didn't have time to focus on it. He still felt as if someone was behind him, watching him. And knowing now that he hadn't seen anyone only made him more anxious. Either the person who was watching him was hiding, or they were not real and he just felt things that weren't there. Just like he had thought there was a girl in the tree before. His head jerked up when he thought about that again and he turned back around to look at that tree but he saw no one. A deep sigh escaped his lips as he once again turned back to face te pond. He hated feeling like this. He even wished there was someone watching him, someone here with him just so that he didn't feel insane. He had to know if he was losing his mind. Maybe was moving back here not a good idea at all. Maybe all this nostalgia was messing with his head. He felt like he was losing his mind already.
