mondeling tentamen helpp :(
Anoniem
Playback-ster

my dutch is getting really bad i don't know why but it bothers me so much, 50% of the text i wrote above is by me and 50% is from google translator because i just forgot every word and had to google it lol but yea i hope you can understand what i'm trying to say.
i really really hope some of you read the book and can help me out

I don't know the book, I'd really like to help you though.

Maybe you could search for Dutch websites with information about the book, because it's a Dutch book there will probably be more details about the storyline on Dutch sites than German sites. Try to translate those sites and mayble you'll find something!

Good luck!

ok, the internet says his grandpa learned him to play chess and ben has always looked up to him, maybe that's the only thing he remembers of his grandpa, which makes it so important to him?

i'm trying to remember as much as possible, can you give me examples of where the book mentions chess?

www.scholieren.com/zoeken/dagen%20van%20het%20gras

misschien kun je het hier in vinden!

yes thank you!

so, ben grew up mostly with his grandparents because he didn't have a good relationship with his mom. he learned almost everything from his grandfather i think and tom, his "friend" who's probably just an imagination (the book doesn't really say it), was also playing chess with ben's grandfather if i remember it correctly. tom was also the reason for ben's drug problems and when he got into rehab, he had to play chess again to exercise his brain. that's all i remember, gotta read the book again to see if there's more

Sure thing!
I don't know the book so I don't think I'm able to help with that, but I can read the text when it's ready to check and correct it :)

No problem! (Well I can help with grammar, but not with the information on the book itself)

yeah i remember my teacher saying Tom was imaginary but I never really understood that, there are a few hints in the book but Tom was potrayed as such a real character! Thinking of it, maybe that was the whole point. we believed he existed, just like Ben did.

maybe chess symbolizes distraction, escaping from the 'real world'? When he could play chess with is grandpa, he forgot all troubles with his mom etc. When he got older and stopped playing chess since he had no one to play it with, he distracted himself with drugs. Now that he's trying to get clean, he needs something else to distract himself from the situation that he's in and so starts playing chess again. idk, it's my theory. I remember we talked about in in class yet i don't remember the answer my teacher gave me.

i think it's important you have a good theory in mind, it does not necessarily have to be true

so:

thank you!! @QueenCandy @Demi

and thank you @Acnologia and i think you're right, the theory definitely doesn't have to be true. but maybe what you said is just the same as the teachers were thinking, that would be nice. but even if it's not, it doesn't matter. and thank you so so much for translating it, you didn't have to do it, that's so nice of you  maybe i can find even more information so i can really talk for 3 minutes straight
