As fast as my legs can go I run towards the bridge, the bridge where my lips first touched hers and where she, with a quiet voice, told me she was afraid she had fallen in love with me. Afraid. Afraid because she had never felt any other emotion but pain. However, you couldn't really say her pain was an emotion, rather a way of living. Pain infiltrated her lifestyle when her world fell apart and got rebuild by depression. Instead of joy and laughter forming an airy aura, anxiety and ache formed the cement of the wall she built around herself.
In the distance I see the bridge under a blanket of brightly sparkling stars, but that is soon about to change since dark clouds are forming a tidal wave above my head, moving quickly forward.
As I'm coming closer a silhouette emerges from the darkness. It's her. I can feel my body weaken, but I won't stop running, or else the darkness will outpace me and steal her away from me.
"Val! Val, please don't do this!", I scream from the top of my lungs, while still running, causing severe pains in my side. There she stands, leaning forward on the other side of the railing, ready to jump into her dreams. When hearing my voice, she turns around, startled.
"Please go away! I beg you Jonah, go!" she screams while tears run down her face.
"Valencia, stop this nonsense! You're confused, please let me help you!" I shout at her, slowly coming closer.
"Jonah, one more fucking step and I jump! Please, just leave, you can't help me, and you know that! It's too late, Jo.."
"I will not let you jump, Val. You're my world. You're the reason I dare to dream again." She looks at me, the pain in her eyes fill my body with adrenaline.
I walk towards her, taking baby steps, while our eyes don't lose contact. I'm only one metre away from her, I can feel her warmth, I can smell her perfume, from the corner of my eye I can see the diamond of the necklace I gave her shimmer, and I can see how fear takes over the pain in her eyes.
"Why are you doing this Jonah?" she asks silently.I stare at her for a while, I don't speak, and neither does she. The only sound audible is that of the with large rocks filled river below us. Her mouth moves but makes no sound, and that's when I quickly wrap my left arm around her waist and grab her right arm with my other arm. She screams, cries and struggles to get out of my arms. I try to pull her over the railing when suddenly she decides to let herself fall. With all that's in my power I try to hold onto her. Her screams are unbearable, and when she looks up to me I can see her face covered in tears. Her facial expression has altered, her eyes don't scream a fear for living, but a fear of dying.
"Jo, I'm so sorry, I'm so so sorry, please, pull me up, please, I know you can do it", she cries.
I can feel my muscles acidify, but her words give me strenght. I pull her up, bit by bit.
"Jo, don't give up!"
"I'll never let you go!" I scream, giving all that's in my power to get her over that goddamn railing. But my hands are getting sweaty and I'm starting to lose my grip.
"Jo... Jo? Jo! You're hands, they, they... Please don't let go, you can do it! I, I love you!" she screams while anxiously looking at the river beneath her.
"I love you too Val!" I shout while pain fills my body, causing it to shake. I look down and see those beautiful blue eyes that made me fall in love with this girl.
"Don't give up!" she screams.
"I'll never let yo.."
I hear her scream. 3 seconds straight. And then the sound... The sound of...
I collapse.
