Walking up the small set of stairs to his new house Leo let his hand slide over the nicely lacquered wooden railing. A new town, a new beginning. Entering the house he was hit in the face by the faint dusty smell, something he found quite familiar. Every time it just felt the same, he moved to a place, stayed there for a couple of years, people started to get suspicious, too many animals died, Leonardo didn't seem to age, and so he moved away again, to a new town, in a new house, with new people. In a way, history always seemed to repeat itself, Leonardo always had to move away again in the end, he didn't know why he still even bothered to try and be a part of today's society. He could easily find himself a house in the woods and stay there for an eternity, that just sounded way too lonely. Leo didn't like feeling lonely.
Closing the door behind himself he walked further into the house. He always managed to find pretty places, old houses, abandoned by their previous owners. They always carried something beautiful with them, a certain ambiance surrounding the place. Sadly, houses like these never came with any furniture, so Leo was going to have to do some shopping. He had a certain few items he always took with him, just a bunch of things he had been carrying with him for as long as he could remember. It never dawned on him to bring the furniture he owned in his previous house to the new one as well, he always just kind of bought new furniture whenever he moved. Wow, what a waste of money that actually was. Not that he really worried about that all too much. Gathering his phone, wallet, and the keys to this house Leonardo left the place again. If he went to buy furniture now he could use that as a chance to explore the town a little as well, sounded like a win win situation. As his house was placed more on the outside of town, near the woods, the walk towards the main square of town took a little while, not all too long though, just about fifteen minutes. Once he reached the square Leo instantly went for one of the second hand antique shops, he found that you could always find nice gems in stores like those, some items that reminded him of his childhood or the home he grew up in. He didn't always like to be reminded of that, but when it came to furniture he loved to feel that sort of nostalgia to his childhood, back when his life was normal. Dear God did he long for a normal life sometimes. Sadly for him, his life wasn't and would never be anywhere near normal. He just had to deal with that, and so he did.

The dress lay out on the bed, ready to be worn. It was even nicely ironed, courtesy of her mom. However pretty the piece of clothing was, though, Leah didn't want to wear it. Her parents had agreed to meet up for brunch with Young family and Leah wasn't looking forward to it. Her parents were trying to set up meetings with other young, mateless werewolves to find her true mate, but the brunches and dinners had been fruitless and Leah was done with them. Her parents had thus far stayed within their own pack, but were willing to search outside of that if theirs wouldn't come to anything. It annoyed Leah that they were trying to interfere so much with her life, they didn't realize that she would meet her mate when the time was right, not because they forced the meetings.
Leah's pack all lived in the same town, but as there hadn't been turmoil the last few years, the contact between the whole pack became less and less. They stayed together, of course, but they didn't exactly have to work together that much anymore to defend the territory. Their alpha would update them every week, but there was never much news. Every now and then, they would greet each other on the streets, and maybe stop for a little chat. That's how Leah hadn't seen much of the pack, at least since she reached the age of 21, at which she could find her mate.
While sighing and rolling her eyes, making too much of a dramatic scene while being on her own, Leah put on the dress and floofed her hair one more time before turning around and walking downstairs. It was time to discover that yet another boy was not her mate. She wondered when her parents would give up -- if they would at all.

Wandering through the antique store Leo let his gaze fly over all the different kind of items and furniture pieces that were set on display. With stores like this it was always a hit or miss, you never knew if you would find a gem or if the store was just filled with antique looking dupes from China. Sadly, nowadays, it was more of the latter. More store owners getting cheap dupes to sell for the same price as the other items so they would get more money. A part of Leonardo could understand this, but it also disappointed him whenever he saw it. Luckily he had grown quite well at recognising what was fake and what wasn’t.
Leo walked deeper into the store, letting his hand glide over a small cabinet. He hadn’t really thought this through. He couldn’t just casually carry a bunch of furniture to his new house. He could always reserve it and pick it up later with his car. Yeah, that sounded like a good plan. He would just have to do that. As he walked deeper into the store Leo noticed that more and more things started to look real. It was strange to him. He would think that you would put the real items in the front of the store, and the fake items in the back, so people would come in thinking what was inside is real. Maybe he just thought too highly of these people, maybe they had no idea which of these items was real or not. He shouldn’t really care either. It was none of his business anyway.
After strolling around for a little while longer Leonardo’s gaze fell upon a wardrobe. It was certainly not the most important piece of furniture to get, but it was a very beautiful looking wardrobe. He kept it in mind as he walked further. Within a couple of minutes Leo had found a couple of items to his liking, and had agreed with the store keeper that he would pay now, and was allowed to pick them up whenever he could. The store keeper was a lovely lady, Leo was grateful. And so he left the store again, still keeping the items he had picked out in mind. He surely needed a lot more furniture than just those four items, but he could always try to look at online antique stores. That would be a lot more convenient as well, as they would deliver things to his house and he wouldn’t have to pick them up. Maybe he should have looked at that first anyway, but that was too late now.
And so, after leaving the antique store, Leonardo made his way back towards his house, not feeling in the mood to really look around the town anymore for today. Maybe he was tired from the move, or maybe it was the annoying hunger sensation that he felt that kept him from wanting to stay around people much longer. The thing was, Leo didn’t really feed off of people anymore. He just stuck with animals, hence why he always made sure to het a place near the forest, he could easily catch something to feed off in the forest without anyone noticing. No one was ever really surprised fo find a dead animal in the forest anyway. It was very convenient for Leonardo and kept him from feeding off of humans again. He had done it for a long while, feed from humans, but those weren’t exactly years he was proud of. They were mostly messy and half assed memories, memories he didn’t like to think back on. And so he didn’t, didn’t think back on the past and just focused himself on right now. That was all that mattered anyway.

"And remember that time when we lost you when we went to the sea," Leah's mom rambled, to which the people around the table politely laughed. She's been telling stories about when Leah was small ever since the brunch started. While slowly munching away a sandwich, she tried to zone out and avoid possible conversation. There was obviously no connection with this guy either, but her parents didn't want to come off as rude, and neither did the other family. Leah just didn't care anymore if she seemed rude.
The food was good, sure, but Leah just couldn't enjoy it. She much rather be anywhere else but there. Time seemed to trickle by, and she couldn't wait until they were going home again. In the beginning of the brunch, she had tried to come off as a well-raised girl, but it was exhausting to do, when it wouldn't matter anyways. The guy was not her mate, so any impression wouldn't matter either.
After being zoned out for a while, her parent also realizing she wouldn't be participating in the conversation at all, they were finally going. Some pleasantries from both sides were exchanged and they went home. It was only the other side of town, so they came on foot.
Leah trailed behind her parents on the way home, not really in the mood to talk or do much at all.
"Well, that was nice," her mom had tried, but after Leah just shrugged, her mom decided to let her be.
At some point Leah raised her head, brows slightly furrowing. She sniffed the air lightly. They just reached the main square and there was this very distinct smell. Taking another sniff, she became more confused. The smell was new, she couldn't quite place it, but it was a very pleasant smell. Her heart started racing but she wasn't really sure as to why.
As they walked further, the smell slowly disintegrated the more they moved away from it, and Leah frowned at the loss. It was weird though, she didn't know what had caused that and why it was so distinct and pleasant.
When they reached home, Leah went straight up to her room, the confusion not having left her body yet. She tried to remember the smell, so maybe she could place it after some thinking. It had smelled somewhat like pine, but not completely. After a few minutes of thinking and nothing coming out of it, she decided to just let it go.
She took her phone and started texting her best friend, Maria, about the brunch, basically whining about her parents forcing her to those brunches and dinners. And of course, like always, Maria responded that she just needed to move out already and decide for herself.
It wasn't that easy, though, she had no idea what she would do on her own. Sighing, she put her phone away and closed her eyes, hoping on a good nap.

Sitting on the floor of the, still empty, livingroom Leonardo took a moment for himself. He hadn’t taken one of those in a very long time, or at least it felt like it. He felt like he hadn’t done a lot of things jn a very long time. In his last time Leonardo had tried again, tried to be more human, make some friends, get contacts. He even got a job in town, he really tried. He didn’t really know why. It never worked out anyway. Why try when you end up losing everyone anyway? He still talked to some people, still had some contacts from years ago. They called, from time to time, texted even. He didn’t meet up with them in person anymore, couldn’t really hide the fact that he hadn’t aged at all. But they still talked, and it made Leonardo feel some sort of human again. He had stopped trying to make actual friends for years though, the pain that came with losing your friends wasn’t nice, was too much to handle in the end. He did go to every funeral, he would stay in the back, would go by unnoticed, just to still pay his respects to the people, just to show he did care. He really did. Caring was just a little hard when you were unable of meeting them in real life, of showing that you care besides calling them, or texting with them every now and then. He could imagine it was difficult for the both of them, could imagine that maybe they felt some sort of loss too when a close friend suddenly left and never really showed themselves anymore. It was a difficult thing for the both of them.
Eyes roaming around the room Leonardo was hit with that annoying hunger sensation again. He could ignore it, could just stay seated and not get himself anything, but that was hard. Ever since he switched to animal blood he had become more thirsty, he needed more to keep him standing, to keep him strong. Of course he didn’t really need to be strong, he always stayed hidden from any enemies he had, but his hunger sensation would still linger, even if he didn’t feel like he needed any blood, he would still crave it.
Giving in to the hunger Leonardo stood up from the floor, leaving his new house behind again as he made path to the forest. The fresh air did him well, the excitement he felt knowing he was going to feed. But as he made his way towards the forest a sweet smell hit his nose, catching him off guard instantly. He had stopped in his trace, being fully taken aback by this smell. There was no way to describe it, but it smelled good, good enough to make Leo feel slightly light headed. Unconsciously Leo started following the scent. The more he walked the stronger the smell became, it was almost sickingly nice. It wasn’t until Leonardo noticed houses coming in sight that he realised that what he was doing was odd, not smart even. He had heard of traps before, hunters laying out nice smells to lure vampires and get them killed. He should know better than to just walk up to a smell because it was nice to him. How stupid could he be.
