ORPG ~ Your Powers Must Stay Secret *

After a while, Luna got to the other side of the lake and stood onto a large branch of one of the trees near the lake. She now was only a few metres away from the guy sitting there on the light green grass that grew around the lake. Thankfully, he was sitting on the grass and not on the rocks. The rocks were one of the most special features in the whole field. The grass was magical, the water was calm, yet the rocks felt so... safe. It felt like a home to her, even though she didn't know why. It did not even have a roof. Not that she needed a roof, but still. It wasn't even soft, but the feeling she got every time she sat there was soft. Luna had no idea why they were this important to her, but they were.
Luna looked at him as he was staring into the water. She could almost feel his emotions from here, it was that obvious. He looked very stressed, mixed with worry and anxiety, or something like that. And there was something else about him, something she could not really describe. It was something familiar, yet so unknown. Hope? Miserability? Was there even a word for? Maybe it was something in between two opposites. Strange. Luna watched as she saw him watching in the direction of the tree she had just been sitting in and sighed silently.

Fear was something Castiel har experienced a lot over the past eight years. He remembered his dad used to tell him how he was never afraid as a kid. He once overheard his parents talk about how his anxiety had started after they moved. Castiel still likes to believe he doesn’t have anxiety and he isn’t afraid all the time but he knows it’s a lie and he knows he’s terrified every single second. If it’s not about moving again or about feeling unsafe while surrounded by a lot of people it’s because he’s afraid for his father’s life. He has this constant fear when he’s away. The fear of him maybe not returning. The fear that he’ll be all alone when his dad is gone. Though Castiel wasn’t a fan of placed with a lot of people. He didn’t like being alone either. He would be the only one in a room and still not feel lonely because he knew his dad was somewhere too and if he had the time he’d be thinking about Castiel like he was thinking about his dad. Yet he could be in a room surrounded by people and feel so lonely. Sometimes he didn’t understand his own emotions, and that’s when it would start to rain. Castiel always thought that the universe knew when he started to feel uneasy and that the universe knew that rain made him feel better. He knew that wasn’t the truth and that it probably just happened coincidentally, but he liked the thought of the universe looking out for him when no one else did or could.

As he was staring down at the water Castiel felt his anxiety creeping up on him. There was a little voice inside his head that kept telling him that someone was looking at him and even though he had looked around him multiple times, it still made him feel very uncomfortable. So he carefully stood up and sat down on the rocks. He didn’t know why, but sitting on those rocks made him feel a bit more comfortable. Like they were there to protect him. He remembered that he used to sit on them when he was with his best friend, which was probably why they felt so familiar to him. He didn’t remember a lot about his best friend herself, just about the things they used to do together. He didn’t think that if she’d still be alive he would even recognize her, sadly he’d never know since she in fact was not alive anymore. Or so he thought.

Luna remained seated on the branch as he looked back at the water again. She wondered if he had seen her, after all. If he had indeed seen her, she probably had to be careful. One wrong move, one human sound and she might blow her cover. She actually wanted to go home, but she didn't. The chance of him being up to something was still there, even though he seemed anxious and aware of the fact that he wasn't alone. She had to know who he was, where he came from and why he was here: She needed answers, and preferably as soon as possible.

Luna tilted her head a bit as soon as she saw him starting to move once again. However, this time it wasn't just his eyes looking aroud and his head turning, this time he was about to do something different. She watched him as his arms supported the rest of his body on its way to stand up. The next thing she knew was him walking away from the place he had been sitting, but to her surprise he wasn't walking away from the forest. He was headed straight towards the rocks. The rocks! "No..." Luna clasped her hand over her mouth as she realised she had just said that out loud. As soon as she realised what she'd just done, she moved away as fast as possible, hiding behind the stem of the tree. She felt her heart pounding in her chest as her breath became a little heavier. It all happened in a matter of seconds. Please tell me he did not hear or see that.

Maybe he was going insane, maybe going back to this old black and white town was not a good idea. Maybe the town was messing with his head. That, or there actually was someone else there. Someone who said 'no' the moment he wanted to sit down on the rocks. His eyes scanned his surroundings, looking for something, someone. For a quick moment he thought he saw someone in the tree across from him. A slim figure, hiding in the shadows, moving quick. It all happened in a matter of seconds, he wasn't even sure of what he saw.  Could he trust his own eyes? Was he actually losing his mind? He harshly bit down on his lip, not being sure what to do with this situation. A part of him told him to get out of there as fast as he could, everyone had seen horror movies and this was really starting to look like the start of one. He didn't want to be that character that died at the beginning of a movie. But another part of him convinced Castiel that horror movies where fake and that he wasn't going to die just yet. Maybe over the past eight years this spot gas grown to be someone else's spot, maybe he was intruding their safe place. But then again, this spot once was his safe place.

For a moment he kept quiet, not really sure what he had to do. Carefully he got up again from the rock. He  looked around him and tried to find someone again, but he didn't. So he looked forward towards the tree where he thought he had seen someone not that long ago. "Hello?" he called out, feeling the anxiety creeping up on him once again. God he hated feeling anxious. "Is someone out there?" Maybe calling out for them was not his best plan, but he wanted to know if there actually was someone out there, if he wasn't losing his mind entirely. And if there was someone, he wanted to know who it was, he wanted to know why they said 'no', how they found this spot and if they wanted him to leave.  Although he already thought he knew the answer to his last question.

Don't see me, don't see me. The voice in her head kept saying. Don't see me. But he did. He heard her and he saw her. 'Hello? is someone out there?' Those were the words he spoke, and he seemed quite close to the tree she was in. How close exactly she had no idea, but close enough for her to know that he defenitely knew she was here. Right at this place. He could not see her right now, but he must have seen the movement of her moving behind the leaves. Luna didn't know what to do: show herself, or not show herself. Part of her wanted to get down there and ask him all of the questions that had popped into her head for the past ten minutes. He already knew she was here, so all she had to do was show herself. The other part of her, however, wanted to stay right where she was and wait for him to go away. She didn't know what he was up to and how strong he was. Then again, what if he would not go away? What if he would be waiting for her to move again? If he really wanted to find her, he would. There was only one option. Luna Hesitated for a while longer, but then sighed silently before turning around again, revealing herself from behind the tree. She stood at the branch looking down at the guy. This was it, there was no turning back now. She took another deep breath and inhaled the fresh air, closing her eyes. She stayed silent for around ten seconds before opening them again. "Who are you?"

In complete silence he waited for the person behind the tree to do something, anything, just so he could be certain he was not losing his mind. He was scared though. What if this person was going to attack him.  What if he would die? His father wouldn't even know until he returned, and even then maybe he'd think Castiel had walked away from home, had moved again. He couldn't die now. He didn't want his father to suffer more than he already did. If it wasn't for his father he wouldn't really mind dying right there. He had had a lovely life, he had seen so much of the world and he had been loved by his parents as much as they could. There was nothing left for him to do, he didn't have any goals in life yet. And though he would love to stay alive, he wouldn't mind dying if it wasn't for his dad.
After a few moments Castiel was ready to give up, maybe he was crazy after all. But then all of a sudden some brances and leaves started to move.  He tried to tell himself it was the wind at first until a shadow moved. From behind the tree a girl came in his sight. Something about her was familiar to Castiel, familiar yet scary and unknown. Like he had known her in his previous life. Maybe they had been good friends, or even lovers. He didn't know that, all he knew was that he was terrified. Who was this strange girl that knew his secret place. Why was she up in the tree.
Castiel could feel the tention playing between them, you could cut it with a knife. There was an uncomfortable silence until the girl decided to speak up. "Who are you?" For a second Castiel didn't know what to answer. Who was he? Why was that any of her business? He immediately shook that thought out of his mind. He shouldn't be like that, he was wondering who she was  as well.
"I'm Castiel, but you can call me Cas," he softly spoke, careful not to talk too loud, almost as if he was scared to speak. "And who are you?" Castiel was never a big fan of telling people his name. It was a very unique name and sometimes people would make fun of it, or people would keep pronouncing it wrong, which he didn't mind, but it was one of the reasons he often immediately told people to call him by his nickname, it was just a lot easier.

He stayed silent for a short while after my question, as if he were thinking for a good answer. Luna had expected for a clear answer, but instead all she got was a name. He said his name was Castiel but she could call him Cas. "Cas-ti-el." she repeated in a soft voice. "Cas..." Her serious face turned into a grin. "Mind if I keep the 'tiel'? I like it." Luna had never known anyone called Castiel as far as she knew, although it did sound familiar. She actually liked the name, it was.. unique. But as soon as the grin had formed, it faded from her face. She bit her cheek as she hesitated for a short while. "I am... It doesn't matter who I am." She said as she looked down at her hands and sighed. Ugh, what was she even doing showing emotion to someone from whom she didn't even know wether she could trust him or not? Get your stuff together, Luna. She raised her head again. "But if you must know, my name is Luna. A name, however, does not decribe who you are." She said with a calm voice. "Now anwer this question, Castiel. Who are you?"

He bit his lip softly as she pronounced his name. She tried and he appreciated, but like many others she didn't say it correctly, not that he had expected this. He was so used to people mispronouncing his name that it didn't surprise him anymore. He cocked his eyebrow when a grin appeared on her face. He never really trusted grinning people. At least, not in situations like this. When in a movie a lover would grin at the other, it would have a different vibe. Now it was a stranger in the forest and those words on its own didn't give a nice vibe if you asked Castiel. "Whatever floats your boat," knikte hij voorzichtig op haar woorden. Tiel, he didn't mind it, it didn't look like his name but it was unique and he liked that. Of course he wasn't going to say this, that would be weird and he didn't immediately wanted to give off a weird vibe.
He saw the griin fade from her face and noticed her getting all serious aggain. He changed his mind, he liked the grin better, even if it was creepy, he liked it better than her serious face. Once again he cocked his eyebrow as she spoke. It didn't matter who she was? Ok, he was certain now, he was going to die. Right here and right now. Dear Lord safe him. Luckily she soon spoke up again and told him her name. He smiled kindly at it. "Luna," he whispered, "like the moon." Castiel had always liked the moon. The universe even. When he was a kid he would dream of being an astronaut, but as a kid he wanted to be all kinds of things, it wasn't that special if he wanted to be something. He often changed his mind about those things, he must've had every job by now.
Her question confused him.  Who was he?  Didn't he just tell her? He was Castiel, nothing more nothing less. But he figured she wouldn't be satisfied with that answer. "I'm Castiel Novak, I'm just a boy, that is who I am," he told her, still not so certain what she meant with her question. Castiel Novak was who he was, he wasn't some special person, someone important or famous.  He was Castiel.

'Whatever floats your boat' Those were the words he had said. Luna didn't really understand what he meant by that, but it must have been something like 'okay' or 'sure'. Luna saw his facial expression change as she grinned and it changed once again as she stopped grinning. hmm, he would have been a good actor, she thought. the look he gave her the moment she did her serious face was the best one yet. Like she was going to kill him with one hand, or something like that. No, Luna was not the killing type, more like the opposite. She would not even harm a fly even if it would fly around her head for one hour, but luckily flies weren't that stupid to fly around there without a purpose. Because everything had a purpose, and so did castiel, the only thing was that Luna hadn't discovered that purpose yet.

Castiel whispered her name and she couldn't help but smile. Most people would just yell at her when pronouncing her name, but the way he said it sounded so calm. she nodded. "yeah, like the moon." Some people had really deep meanings to their names, but woth luna it was just moon written in an old language. Oh well. The moon wasn't actually that bad, given the world would be a lot different without it. Castiel told her his last name, but just like his first name, it was still a name. He said he was just a boy, and that was about it. hmm, he clearly didn't understand the question. "Okay, in that case, I'm just a girl." She then said as she sat down on the branch again. Her feet were now about a metre above Castiels head. "So... what brings you here, exactly?"

He kept repeating her name in his head, thinking of every possible meaning for it, but he kept coming back to moon. The name originated from the Latin word of moon. He also remembered reading somewhere that in the roman Mythology Luna is one of the ames of Artemis, the moon goddess. Castiel was always interested in the meaning of people their names and Gods and Mythology. He loved to read about Roman and Greek Mythology and he could spend hours thinking about people their names and what they meant. He believed he got that from his mother, given she was the reason he got his name. If it had been up to his dad he was sure he would've been named something like Chuck or Bob, not very special names, without a special meaning. They were plain names and made Castiel grateful for his special name.

A soft smile played on his lips when she said it was like the moon. "It suits you," he told her, smiling as kind as ever. Castiel believed that it was often better to be kind to people you didn't know than to people you did. Maybe it was weird but being kind to people you didn't know could  lead to new friendshipps, whereas in some situations, being kind to someone you do know could lead to friendships ending, however weird it sounded, in Castiel's mind it was the truth. "I'm sure you're more special than just a girl," he then told her. He didn't think she was just a girl. She seemed like an extraordinary person, special and kind even. Though there was still a chance she would whip out a knife and jump on him, killing him instantly. He just didn't like the thought of that that much. He had to try his best not to give her a sarcastic answer. What brought him here? His feet. He wasn't going to answer that, obviously. He knew she didn't mean that. He had to think about his answer for a bit though, he couldn't just tell her the real reason why he was there, could he? "Oh uhm, when I was younger I used to come here very often so I figured I'd look if the place was still here," he then carefully said. He didn't give her the exact reason, of course he let out somedetails, not wanting to tell his entire life story.

She looked down at him as he was clearly thinking about something, and even though she didn't know what it was, it must have been either very complicated or very simple. He then smiled and told her her name suited her. Hmm, did it? Luna had always liked her name even though it didn't have any deep feeling behind it. Not as far as she knew. Her name didn't have a deep meaning behind it, but maybe the moon itselves did. She never actually thought about it this way, maybe she would look it up sometime if she ever were to get bored. Maybe she was just called like this because she liked the moon, or was there actually another meaning behind it? Castiel also said that she was more than just a girl, to which luna had frowned. What was he getting at? No, luna was just a girl. She might not have been an ordinary girl, but still, she was just a girl. The boy thought about her question for quite a long time and then mentioned that he used to come here when he was younger, and that he was going to check wether the place was still there. Luna stared into the trees at the other side. "I've come here as long as I can remember, yet I've never seen you here before." Luna said lost in thought. If what he said was indeed true, how on earth was it possible that she hadn't seen him?

He furrowed his eyebrows at her words. How was that even possible? He remembered coming here almost every day with his best friend, how come he had never seen her? Then it hit him. Maybe she was a lot younger than she seemed. Maybe she was only thirteen or fourteen. Then it was quite logical that they had never seen eachother. He stopped going here when he was  nine. Maybe that’s when she started. He didn’t know, but something like that sounded the most logical. If it wasn’t like that, then what was it like? “How old are you? If I may ask.” Castiel went to sit on the ground beneath him, wanting to feel the so very green grass in his fingers. He always thought the grass was greener here. Just this one spot. It was magical. Maybe that was why he and his best friend were drawn to here. He liked to think of extraordinary reasons for very ordinary things, just to make them a little more special. He softly bit his lip as he looked up to the girl. Her feet were now almost six feet above his head. But he didn’t mind. He quite liked talking like this. Something about it felt so familiar. Like he’d always talk to her like this. But of course that wasn’t possible. They had only just met. “I can promise you it’s nit a lie though. I really always came here when I was younger. Every day before and after school, just sitting on those stones,” he then told her. He didn’t know if he should mention that he came here with his best friend. Was it that important to know that he didn’t come here alone? He had never actually talked about her, just thought about her a lot. Even now, eight years later he still thought about her daily, even though he didn’t remember her name or even what she looked like.

After a while Castiel decided to speak up again, asking luna about her age. She wanted to answer at first, but was kind of curious to what he estimated her age to be. Luna had always been small for her age, so people would usually estimate her age to be thirteen, fourteen or even twelve. Not that she blamed them of course. She knew a lot of people who were twelve and most of them were taller than her already. "Three guesses." she said with a smile onto her face once again. She figured that she would make him guess three times and if he didn't guess it right after that she would just tell him. Actually, she was kind of curious to his age too. maybe he was here at this place earlier than she was after all. it could be possible, right? it had to be. Maybe he was a few years older than she was and he got here before the time she did. He couldn't have been younger than she was or she would have seen him at least once before here. Or maybe they just went there at separate times. Luna started to question the last possibility as soon as he started talking again. He said he used to go there before and after school, which were basically the same times as Luna and her best friend used to go there. He also mentioned something about rocks, but if Luna had been sitting on the rocks all the time she must have seen him, well, unless there was an age gap between them. however, Luna questioned that theory too since he didn't actually look that old. He looked older than herself, bit not a lot older than herself.

He tried his best not to smile too bright when she told him to guess. He didn't know why but he always loved that. Guessing things, like people's ages or names or something like that. He just loved guessing. He thought about it for a bit before he answered. "Well my first thought was sixteen but then we would've seen eachother here so I'm guessing maybe thirteen?" He looked at her with a little frown playing on his face, like he was still thinking about his question.  "Maybe foruteen but I think we would've seen eachother here if you were fourteen. Yet you don't act like a thirteen or fourteen year old so maybe you're twenty, you act like a twenty year old. Then you would've been here long before me." He was saying all his thoughts out loud, not actually noticing this. He often said his thoughts out loud because he often was all alone so no one would mind. He didn't know if she minded, maybe she just thought he gave her an unnecessarily long answer. That wasn't too far from the truth though. "But maybe we always came here together but we just don't recognize eachother," he said jokingly, knowing damn well his best friend had died and there was absolutely no possible way for her to be his old, dead, best friend. If she was she probably was a zombie or a vampire. Or his parents had lied about her dead but that was impossible. What parent would do that to their kid? No good parent, that was for sure.

Luna could see the happiness in his eyes as he looked at her. She didn't know why but she got the feeling that he really liked this game, because that was probably the reason he was smiling so bright. It looked kind of funny to her, but she thought funny looked quite good on him so it wasn't that bad after all. It went silent again for a while as he was thinking trough whatever he was going to say next. At first he said that he thought she was sixteen, but the he guessed the ages thirteen, fourteen and twenty. Luna thought about it for a while. he had given her four answers, so now she didn't know which ones were his final guesses. His first answer was the correct one, sixteen. Thirteen and fourteen were more commonly guessed answers, but twenty? No one had ever guessed that one before. Luna grinned again, but this time it was a more friendly grin than the previous one. "Twenty?" she laughed softly. "I'm small for my age, but I am not that old. good try though." Luna said. "I'm sixteen. Always follow your first instincts."
