ORPG ~ Your Powers Must Stay Secret *

Castiel answered that he thought her friend knew. Luna smiled weakly, staring at the trees on the other side of the field. He probably did know, even though she never literally told him. But he must have felt it by the way they both acted when they were together. Calm, true happiness. It was like a growing plant, lively. Alive. No restrictions... well, almost no restrictions. Their only restriction was time, although they didn't know that before. Timing. She figured hat would have happened if the car was two seconds later, they might have made it. He might have been alive right now. His parents might have beeen alive, too.
Maybe he was right. It must have been because they went trough the same situation. The exact same situation, actually, even though they hadn't found out about that yet. They had both lost their childhood friend, apparently in the same year, too, she could tell by his reaction. The reaction on what she had just said said enough to her to know that his friend had passed away in that year, too. Luna had clasped her hand  in front of her mouth as she had realised that it was exactly eight years ago. She had to visit his grave! But just as she was about to tell Castiel she had to go, he started talking again: 'Eight years ago? what date? Please don't tell me it was the 12th of june.' Luna went silent and it took a while for her to notice what was going on. They both died on the 12th of june? She swallowed and closed her eyes, nodding carefully. Or well, it was more like bowing down her head. Did it happen twice on one day? Did more people die in the car crash?

Luna's reaction said more than a thousand words. How could it be that both their best friends died that day? It then hit him that today, exactly today it had been eight years ago. How was this even possible?  Four coincidences? He never heard about that, but he didn't believe that this all was still a coincidence. There had to be something. Castiel noticed his hhands shaking, it happened a lot when he was in deep thoughts, thinking about something important. He honestly didn't know what was going on and it was freaking him out. Did both parties die in the car crash? But how come he hadn't heard anything about it on the news? He was already confused about why he hadn't heard anything that morning before his parents told him. They had said it had happened in the morning after all.  But now the confusion was even worse. At least four people died that day,  so how come he had never seen or heard anything about it. Suddenly the rain wasn't just rain anymore, a storm started to take over the town. Thunder was being heard in the distance and every now and then a flash of lightning appeared in the sky. Castiel happened to notice that this happened a lot when he was upset, or angrily confused but he never paid attention to it. He never thought it mattered.
In a quick movement Castiel bowed down,  placed his hands on the muddy surface and he pushed himself up until he was standing. He looked up at Luna, he figured she was confused as well.  "Could you take me to his grave?" he decided to ask.  He figured that if they both died their graves would be close to eachother, he figured that the grave would have a name on it and he would honestly love to remember her name. But most of all, he hoped that there was a possibility that going there would give them some answers. God did he want those answers.

Luna stayed silent for a while as they were apparently both lost in thought. Overwhelmed by confusion, she forgot where she was and what she fast doing for a while. It was just like the times she and her best friend would solve riddles together, only this riddle was a little... harder. It was mysterious and fun, yet frustrating and odd. She looked down at Castiel again, whose hands seemed to be shaking. Luna frowned. Was he cold or was he scared or thrilled, or was it something else? She didn't know. Not that it really mattered a lot as far as she knew. But what she did know was that it had started to rain even more and she could hear the sound of thunder, probably a few kilometres away from where she sat. Or so she figured by counting the time in between the thunder and the lightning. Castile then asked her wether she could take him to her friend's grave and she thought that was fine, although it would be best to wait for the storm to pass because of the lightning. Luna bit her lip. "I think we better head inside. It's not very safe being in the forest during a storm. But yeah, we could visit his grave when the weather gets a little more calm." She smiled. She had never told him about the grave, but maybe that was just some way of telepathy or something.

In his head he counted the seconds between the thunder and the lightning. While it was in no way a legit way to know how far away the storm was, it was a way to make a guess.  He counted eleven seconds between the thunder and the lightning, which meant the storm was about eleven kilometres away. It was still quite far away but you never knew how fast storm would come and go. Sometimes it only took a few minutes for the clouds to travel kilometres. He figured it wasn't a great idea to stay between the trees but before he could say something about it Luna spoke up. "I was just thinking the same thing. We could go to my place but that's on the other side of the town," he then said. he didn't mind the walk but he would understand if she did. While the town was everything but big, it still took a while to get from here to the other side.  Especially since the forest was at the exact opposite end from where he lived. He lived at the very left corner of the town, far away from most houses even, the forest was close to the house of his dead best friend, on the very right corner of te town. He never minded the walk since he was used to it, walking all the way towards the forest or his best friend's house. He didn't know where Luna lived but he figured she didn't live far from the forest, he thought she wouldn't have found this spot if she lived close to him. Once again he heard the sound of thunder, this time it only took him seven counts before the lightning hit.

Luna looked up at the sky, which had turned dark grey by now, as Castiel spoke again. He said that he was thinking the same thing and that we could go to his house, but it was on the other side of the town. Luna nodded while dhe thought about it for a while. She figured she did trust him well enough to go inside his house by now, although they'd have to walk to the other side of the town. It wasn't a big town, so it would probably only take them about twenty minutes. Twenty minutes wasn't a lot of time, but if was not fast enough for the storm. She figured that she storm could be here in about seven minutes, so they would still have to walk in the storm and that could be dangerous. the chances of lightning striking people while they were walking in between the houses was pretty small, but Luna would rather play it safe than sorry. walking to his house probably wasn't the best idea after all. Luna bit her bottom lip as she looked back down at where Castiel was sitting. "I think it would be best to go to my house instead, it's only a four minute walk. That is, if we walk fast." She said while standing up. Gently, she stepped over to the stem of the tree and climbed down until she stood on the grass beside him. He was actually a lot taller than she thought, but that was probably beacuse she had previously looked at him from above.

Luna told him she thought it would be best to go to her house. By the sounds of it Luna lived as close to the forest as his best friend uused to do. He started to wonder if they might have been neighbbours, although he didn't remember his best friend having any neighbours.  He didn't remember much from it anyway. He still knew the house, he could see it when he closed his eyes, like the last time he saw it was ten minutes ago. Some things were just easier to remember or Castiel. Houses and places and directions were a few of those. He  would remember a road he walked when he was four better than a face he saw two days ago in a coffee shop. He just never seemed to forget roads. "Yeah, yeah that sounds like a better plan," he nodded carefully. He figured if he invited her to his house he shouldn't be afraid to go to hers. And the fact that it was only a four minute walk, if they walked fast, made it that he really did not mind. He'd rather walk four minutes to the house of a stranger than twenty to his own in this weather. While Castiel absolutely loved rain and storms, he didn't enjoy them as much as he used to do.  And he definitely did not enjoy thhem when he was surrounded by trees. He remembered hearing about a guy who had been struck by lightning ten times, he couldn't even imagine being struck by lighting once, so he didn't want to take his chances. Something about him was very curious about what it would be liked to get struck by lightning. He just had the feeling like it would be something he would survive without a problem.  He had always felt like he had this weird connection to the weather, and that was probably the reason he thought he could survive it. He would never know though, not until he tried.
He looked down at Luna when she was standing infront of him. She was smaller than he had expected, but he didn't actually think she would have been taller than Castiel, he was quite a tall person. "Which way is it?"

Castiel had replied to her that he thought it sounded like a better plan. It was better than going to his house, at least, since they wouldn'thave to walk trough the lightning and the thunder and the storm that was now raging just a few miles away from here. I'd they walked fast they would be able to make it before the first lighting stroke. Castiel nodded and looked at her as she stood there. Then he asked which way it was. Luna nodded and a weak smile appeared onto her face once again. She started walking around the lake towards the other side of the open field in the direction of her house as the rain was pouring onto her head. She looked at the lake. What was a calm silent lake this morning was now a lake full of constant moving water. It was actually quite fascinating how one drop of water could have such a big impact on the water surface, creating circles and bubbles. Luna continued walking trough the forest in a fast pace, hoping that they would arrive at her house sooner than the storm would. She didn't care about the rain anymore since her clothes were already soaked anyway, but she did care about the lightning and the thunder.

With a little smile on his already wet face Castiel walked after Luna. He had no idea where she lived but he had this weird feeling like it was going to be on the one place he never thought he woukd visit again. Of course it was possible for Luna to live close to his past best friend, but Castiel couldn’t recall anyone living near his best friend’s house. He used to come there almost everyday so to him it seemed like he would remember such thing. But maybe his best friend’s parents had moved away and Luna and her family moved in. No. That was impossible. She said she had lived here all her life. Maybe they used to live somewhere else and bought the house when his best friend her parents moved away, that could be possible. He just couldn’t understand why parents would want to leave the town where their child died. Okay maybe he could. Of course it would maybe bring up some bad memories. Castiel just couldn’t understand why. He would never want to leave, he figured it would feel like leaving your child, because that’s how he felt when they left. He felt like he was leaving his best friend all alone. Eventhough she was already dead.
Even with their attempt on leaving before the storm got to them, they weren’t fast enough. It was like the storm was moving faster than usual. Castiel felt like it was moving in sync with his heartbeat that was also a lot faster now. Castiel often felt connected to the weather but he could never understand why. He figured he was just an outdoor kid. He liked the weather, but mostly wet weather where something was actually happening in the sky instead of boring no-cloud sunny days where all there was up there was the sun and nothing else.

Luna kept walking in a fast pace as she looked into the sky once in a while, only to see the raindrops falling down into her eyes and her vision getting blurry right afterwards. She then blinked, getting the water out of her eyes again. As the two of them were getting closer to her house, Luna decided to count the seconds in between the lightning en the thunder again. "twenty one.. twenty two.. twenty three.. twen--" She counted in a soft voice as the raindrops kept falling down. She then got interrupted by the thunder. Only three and a half seconds... that wasn't a lot. "It seems like it's getting closer by the second.. Want to pull a sprint?" Luna looked back at Castiel to see if he was still following and once she was sure that he was, she started to run.

Castiel was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard Luna talking aloud. She was counting and it wasn't hard for Castiel to realize she was counting the seconds between the lightning and the thunder. He looked upat her when she started to talk to him. Normally he wouldn't want to sprint in the rainy kind of weather. With this much rain already on the streets falling wasn't an if, but a when. But now it did seem like the smart thing to do. "Let's go," he mumbled. As soon as she started running Castiel went as well. He quickly noticed the direction they were running in. He could already see the house in the distance. Something about the thought of Luna living there gave him the chills. Something about having to enter that house again made him feel uneasy. He never thought he would be so close to her house again. He didn't know if he could handle being inside there, knowing damn well she was dead an she would never be able to be inside her own house again. Those thoughts only gave him enough reason not to go inside, but he knew he had to. Staying outside in the storm was too dangerous and he didn't want to risk anything.

Castiel had also strarted running, or so she could tell by what he had replied and by the sound of wet twigs and leaves under both their feet. Luna kept running for the whole time, looking around to check if her new made friend who yet seemed familiar was still following her. Could she call him a friend by now? Not sure, probably. Friendships often confused her since she never knew when to call someone a friend and when not to call someone a friend.
It didn't take a long time before she could see her house. It was an old house, though it had been renovated before Luna and her parents came to live there. It now had an old side and a new side. They could see the old side from where they ran, in the forest. If Luna eould come from school and walk trough the city centre, she would see the newer part of the house. Sometimes it was like the house was actually two houses.
Come on Luna, a few more metres. She thought to herself as she tried to count the seconds between the lightning and the thunder in her head again.

As they kept coming closer to the house Castiel began to feel very uncomfortable. He always dreamed about coming back into his old house, but going into his best friend’s old house was more of a nightmare. He didn’t know what burried memories he’d dig up by doing this. He had always sort of protected himself by forgetting almost everything about his past best friend. He didn’t know how he would handle having all those memories hit him again. He would have to face that she was really dead. That didn’t sound very nice.
As Castiel started to feel more and more scared of going inside there the thunder and lightning became louder and closer to where they were. It was like the process was speeding up. In some way the sound of rain and thunder calmed him, the flashes of lightning he could see being mirrored in the clouds in front of him gave him a nice feeling. He know they shouldn’t, but they did.
Castiel decided he had to stop thinking, he was going to drive himself insane once. So he focussed on Luna whom was still running infront of him and he kept running after her, towards the house that kept so many memories to him.

After another short while of sprinting towards the house, Luna was the first person to get there. She stood on the small pavement in front of the wooden door. Above the door, there was a small ridge that kept most of the rain from falling onto her head. She looked around to find Castiel still behind her as both her hands searched trough her pockets to find the house key. Once she found her house key, along with her bicycle key and her school locker key, she sticked it into the lock of the door and gently twisted it around. *CLICK* the door lock said, as Luna's hand reached out for the door knob and opened the door. She then stepped inside the house and waited for Castiel to do the same.

Castiel slowed down his pace when Luna had reached the house and stood there under the little ridge that kept the rain from falling onto her. He looked at her as she took her key and opened the frontdoor. He didn’t know if he could do this. It didn’t feel right. It actually felt so wrong, but it didn’t seem like he had much of a choice. It was either going inside here or going all the way home but that was a far path to walk in the stumbling storm. He had himself caught in the soace between a rock and a hardplace. He didn’t know what to do but withoit his control his legs just kept going towards the house. “I’m not sure if I should get inside,” he told Luna honestly as he stood infront of the little pavement. “How long have you lived here for?” He just had to ask. He couldn’t stand not knowing when the parents of his dead best friend decided to move away and left the house their kid grew up in. It was such a weird feeling for Castiel to be back at the house once again. It brought up so many blurry memories about him coming here almost every day, visiting to play or bake. He remembered playing tag and hide and seek inside this house. He remembered trying to bake cookies and sleeping over here. The shitty thing was that he just couldn’t remember with whom he did all of this. He knew it was with his best friend, who was dead now. But he couldn’t remember any real details about her. He didn’t even remember her name, which was the weirdest thing to him. He just wished he would remember her name. He knew the way she looked by heart, but even if she was still alive now he would never be able to recognize her, she would’ve grown up and probably wouldn’t look like her youngerself at all. Castiel didn’t look like his younger self either.

Luna continued to wait for him to get inside the house, holding the door for him. She frowned slightly as she noticed he was not making any movements suggesting that he wanted to enter the house. Instead, he was deep in thought and it was almost like he had forgotten how to enter a door and was now trying to figure out how to properly walk. The frown on her forehead got deeper as he said that he wasn't sure if he should get inside or not. For a while, Luna stood there genuinely confused as to why he didn't want to enter her house. Was something wrong? Did he not trust her? Or did he prefer staying out in the rain even though it was storming like crazy? The last option sounded very unlikely to her. "How do you mean?" she asked and fell silent for a short while. "We don't bite." she then added in a soft voice. He then asked how for how long she had been living here. She didn't know why that would be relevant, so that Honestly made her even more confused. She thought about his quistion for a while after answering. "I have lived here for my whole life, as far as I can remember." She did not remember living anywhere else in her life, exept maybe she lived somewhere else as a baby or a toddler, but of course she could not remember that.
