Of course he failed. What did she think would happen? That a human could get anything done? No, it was obvious that she needed to get out of this situation herself, even though Avyanna would've greatly preferred it if that boy did shoot the captain. Even if it didn't kill him, it would be so worth seeing the look on his face when one of his precious bullets went into his body instead of hers. But they send the boy and all the other ones that were likely to fall for her beauty away, only leaving the older or more experienced men on deck. Pity. She would've liked to play a little bit more with some of them.
The thing was, that Garyn guy was planning on putting something before her eyes and mouth. Her eyes she could live with, but a muzzle was out of the question. She would bite off the hand that tried. Or she could just go along with what he wanted from her and figure out his endgame, because there was one, even if she didn't see it yet.
'No need,' she spoke and if not all eyes were already on her, then they were now. She guessed that most pirates hadn't even seen a siren up close, let alone talked to one. Their language wasn't hard to learn, it was just a couple of centuries ago that she had last spoken it, so she wasn't as fluent as she used to be. And she had an obvious accent. Other than that she was fairly certain that they would understand her, just as she understood what they were telling her. Or asking her, whether or not she answered those questions.
'I will be nice,' she flashed the captain a smile, showing off her teeth while looking him in the eye. One of her hands had gotten stuck in the net, but the other was free and they all knew she would use it if somebody came to close. It was probably in their best interest to first try and talk to her, as long as she didn't pull another stunt like that. Avyanna made no promises. Not to filth like them.
'Tell me, Garyn of the Cursed Wolf, what is it you want from me?' Better to be up front and just ask, perhaps it was even interesting to her, although she doubted it. Humans were mindless creatures, slaves to their gold and pleasure. Sirens were high above them, which was why it bothered her so much that they managed to capture her. They would pay for it nonetheless, either from her fury or that of the other sirens. That youngling would tell somebody and sirens weren't the kind of gals that liked it when they were the ones being hunted. They would end this charade within seconds, probably devouring the entire crew of the Cursed Wolf. Avyanna smiled. No matter what happened, these humans were dead.

His men had already started to look for a muzzle and something to cover her eyes with. Luckily, Caryn came prepared. Knowing that the teeth of a siren could bite right through flesh and bones, he had bought some pieces of leather, which a few of his men had made into protective wear, so that they could approach a siren with a little bit more security. It wasn’t a full guarantee that they wouldn’t get hurt, but it was something to protect them.
The siren spoke. It was with a hint of song, a little accent and it seemed like she was struggeling a little bit to speak in their language, but she managed. Everyone, even Garyn, stared at her with disbelief. However, the disbelief soon changed into an entertained look on his face. Now that he knew she could talk to him, and that she understood him almost fully, he could achieve a lot more.
‘Oh, so now that you actually think of us men as a treath, you decide you can let us know you can talk?’ Garyn was sure that she would not have used her voice to talk if she hadn’t been scared, even if it was just a little bit. She decided to talk to them, him specifically. It was a game she had started to play. She wanted to see if he would fall for her words, lose track of his own so she could twist them into something else. He would not let her. He would be very cautious.
‘What I want, is a treasure. One, hidden in the deeps of the see where only sirens know the way. How the old bastard managed to deliver his treasure there and make it back fully alive? I don’t know, but I do know that I need a siren to guide me. Or else me and all of my man will be dead.’ She wouldn’t help him, not yet. He would be crazy to think that she would just accept that this was her life now, aiding a captain. No, she was much more feisty than that. He would need something to give her in return. Not just her freedom. He would need more.
‘But, you don’t think I’ll take your word for it, do you now? I would be a fool to believe that you’ll be nice.’ She was in danger and she wanted to get away. Of course she wanted to, it was a response even a human would have in a situation like this.
He gestured his men. ‘Muzzle her. Make sure she is fully tied up and be careful with the claws. Those things are nasty.’ Garyn stepped back, so a few of his sailors could handle the siren.

'A threat?' She laughed. That was ridiculous.
'No darling, not a threat. To be a threat, I would have to fear death and after so many decades that fades away.' Although Avyanna wasn't particularly interested in dying, she also wasn't afraid of it, so that was true. The only thing she didn't want was to be somebody's prize and that was happening now, so that was the problem for her, but there was no need to tell him that. She didn't lie about the dying part. It was something she learned long ago with humans, they were rather keen to sniff out lies, but they didn't manage to see the whole truth either. So as long as somebody could talk the truth without giving away their true intentions, they were usually safe. She did spend some time studying these humans and their interactions with one another, there was a time in her life that she actually thought they were interesting.
He started talking about an old men that had brought his treasure through siren infested waters and she nodded. Avyanna knew exactly who he was talking about.
'Yes, I remember him. Smart guy that is, he made a deal with us. Everybody would come for his treasure once they heard of it and they would all have to go through us... We let him bury it on an island in our territory, because you human fools would come and we would have food. Works rather well for us.' Some of the other older sirens had made this deal with him, but Avyanna very much approved. Pitting the humans against one another was so much fun, especially if it got them what they needed; humans to eat. The thing was, he actually wanted her help to get past the other sirens. Idiotic human. Did he really know nothing about them? There was no reason for her to help him, no matter what he planned to do with her if she wouldn't cooperate.
It seemed he was a little less of the idiot she thought he was, because he still ordered his men to muzzle her.
'Not manly enough to do it yourself?' She obviously spoke to the captain, but her eyes followed the men that were circling her. This was going to be bad. For all of them, because she wasn't planning on letting them muzzle her that easy and they knew it. Most sirens were very smart creatures and most pirates... well, they weren't always the smartest of humans. So when one of them was so caught up in looking at her teeth and hands that he stepped on the net, she swiped her tail the other way. in the net so it would move with her With a heavy thump he fell down. So, so stupid.
However there were still plenty more pirates that needed to learn some lessons in dealing with a siren. A low growl came up from deep within her chest, it was the kind of sound a predator makes to warn people. They didn't stop. Shame. She saw them looking at one another and knew that they would come in unison, to make sure that at least one of them had a chance to get that muzzle on her. She just hadn't seen the muzzle yet and didn't know who was carrying it. So when they attacked, she had to chose. She chose wrong. Avyanna was just not the only one to make a mistake.
Two of them lunged for her free arm and one of them managed to catch it, but he was slightly faster than the others who didn't hold back her head yet. She shot forward and her teeth sunk into his shoulder, making the pirate cry out in agony. Served him right. Unfortunately she couldn't see what the others did after biting him, but they were close enough to touch her now and one of them grabbed her hair and pulled her head back. It took them a while, but eventually she pulled her teeth out of his shoulder. The guy was still holding her arm, at least she could call that determination. They put some kind of leather and iron thing around her mouth and tied it on the back of her head. The part in front of her mouth was iron and it was hold together with leather, making sure that she could talk, just not bite. She could also growl and a rather terrifying sound came from her lips. After that the world went dark, they tied a piece of fabric in front of her eyes and made her blind to the world around her. They humiliated her and she was going to kill them, one by one. As soon as she figured out how to get out of this.

She was challenging him. She questioned his manhood, his bravery. Of course, he would do it himself. He could. He was strong and determined, he would not let go of her easily and he didn’t fear her teeth nor her hands with the sharp nails. But he was the captain and he had his crew. What good use would they be if he didn’t order them around? He had already sent away his weaker men, so he trusted the ones he had left fully. They would muzzle her and tie her arms together, just like he asked. It may not go without a bite here and there, but his men knew what they had signed up for.
While he watched as the siren tried to fight her way out, even if she had just her teeth, he thought about her words. She had been honest with him about the treasure. She knew about, she even knew where it was hidden and to who it belonged. That gave him options. However, she would not just give it all up and help him. No, he needed to give her something in return. She may have shared some detail about the treasure, but she sure as hell would not help him find it without getting something out of it.
So far, they had succeeded in muzzling her. One of the sailors however, was bleeding in is shoulder. ‘Go see James, he’ll know what to do,’ mompelde Garyn. They had a healer on their ship. Not a women, of course not. Women did not belong on sea, but they did not need a female healer. James was just fine and he could probably do something about the bleeding shoulder.
Garyn grabbed a rope and threw it towards his men. Two of them were holding her down. Even though she made terrifying noises and her tail was trying to get rid of some of the other men, it seemed like they had overpowered her. Her hands were brought together and as fast as they could, they bound them with as many ropes as they could find. Her tail was the strongest point of her body, but they couldn’t underestimate the upper part.
Eventueally, Garyn was looking at an all tied up siren. They had captured her and they had won, for now. She couldn’t see, she couldn’t bite them. And: she couldn’t sing. Or maybe she could, but it would sound horrific. Either way, she wasn’t as much of threat as she had been a couple of minutes ago. And that made him feel pretty damn good.
‘Take her away to the brig. Let her calm down for a moment.’

Her situation kept getting better and better, for the pirates at least. Somehow within half an hour or so she went from lazily sleeping on the rocks to being completely tied up on a pirate ship. With a muzzle. She could honestly handle the ropes, she didn't care about them, but that muzzle was what made her truly angry. It was humiliating and they probably knew that, even though they did it to her to be sure she wouldn't bite them. Well she would find a way, eventually.
They freed the arm that was stuck in the net but unfortunately they were holding it down so she couldn't use it and then they tied both of her arms at her back so she wasn't able to do anything with them. The ropes were digging into her skin. It was kind of an unpleasant feeling, but it still didn't compare to the bullets they had shot her with. When the human part of her body was all tied up, it left them with her tail. Now in the water that thing was unstoppable, but even out here on their deck it was a large, heavy tail and not something they could really tie down with ropes. Not if they wanted to move her somewhere, which they did. Avyanna heard that captain mention the brig, she just had no idea what that meant. Was that in the ship? She had only ever been in sunken ships and then there were no pirates left to tell her what chamber was called a brig. It was a weird name.
Their idea on how to move her became pretty clear after they hoisted her body up and she felt that they were putting ropes on her tail to move her. Were they going to drag her over the deck or what? However, in order to move her, they had to get rid of the nets and that was going to be fun. As soon as she felt a little bit of freedom, she through her tail against one of the pirates, who fell backwards and was cursing like a mad men. There were definitely ropes around her tail, but they probably didn't expect her to have this much power. Idiots. She used her tail to swim across the entire ocean, of course it was stronger than they were. It just wasn't stronger than all of them.
They managed to take her somewhere, she had no clue where but the air was weird here, it didn't feel like she was out in the open anymore. The pirates both dragged and carried her and eventually they threw her in some kind of corner. She could hear them leave, before things went quiet. In the water she would be able to sense where people were, but out here she couldn't, so she had no idea of there were people left here with her or that she was completely alone. She hoped the latter, because she didn't particularly feel like being somebody's prized possession.

Now that Garyn had captured the famous siren, he needed to search for all of his books and scrolls, looking for clues. He needed more information on the wench, if he wanted to negotiate with her. He could promise her food and water, even her freedom, but she would need more if he wanted her help. She was very hostile and he couldn’t blame her. After all, she was his prisoner. She did hurt some of his sailors, but most of them turned out to be fine. There was only one man that they had said goodbye to.
The captain had withdrawn himself in his cabin. Over the years he had gathered many books, not only about sirens, but about many different subjects. A few of them he had inherited from his father, but most of them were his own. He had always known that someday his books would come in handy. Today was that day. He wanted to consult every single book, making sure he wouldn’t miss any lore or tale. Somewhere in his books must be more information about the siren and what she needed. If he would find that, it would be much easier to offer her a prize.
He read about mermaids and curses. Seawitches who were jealous of the beauty and grace a mermaid could poses. There was even a story about a witch who had cursed a mermaid to live a normal, human life. Sadly, when she would walk on her newly gained feet, it would feel as if she was walking on shards of glass. Those stories however, were no use at all. So he moved on to the next book, and the next one after that.
The sky shifted outside. They were greeted by the sun setting, coloring the sky in purples and pinks. Eventually, the twilight kicked in and Garyn needed to light his cabin with a few candles. His eyes were feeling dry and tired, as if he would not be able to hold them open for much longer. Reading was one of his favorite things to do, but he wasn’t particularly quick.
A sigh left his lips as he picked out another scroll. His eyes almost didn’t register the inked words, but then he noticed the words “songless” and “curse”.
This tale told the story of a siren who had been one of the most powerful sirens of all. It was written many decades ago, maybe even centuries. The date on the corner of the scroll was smudges, so it was unclear. However, the story mentioned the siren Avyanna, a powerful and strong siren. So strong, that she had been cursed to lose her voice for eternity. In that way, she would not be able to lure all the ships to her. It was unclear if the curse had come from another underwater creature, or that it had been a curse caused by the humans. What was clear, was that he had captured this so called Avyanna. It was time to make a trip to the brig, where she had been taken.
Garyn walked out of his cabin. He greeted the few men who were still working, while the others were inside drinking and eating. Garyn had not yet had diner, but he would make sure that some food would be sent over to his cabin later.
He found the siren in the corner of the cell, still tied. But she had probably sensed that he was here. ‘Good evening, Avyanna.’

It had taken her a while, but eventually she gave up trying to get out of the ropes and she just settled down. What was that he said to his men? That she needed time to calm down? Apparently he was right. Although it was still a very real possibility that she would be tense within seconds of somebody's arrival, but that wouldn't be her problem. They weren't going to kill her and she was sure that more humiliation wasn't an option, so whatever they tried, it couldn't get worse. She hoped. If they managed to come up with something that she would find even worse than what already happened, she would both be impressed by their creativity and enraged that they find the need to kick a siren that was already out of the water.
That was when she heard somebody approaching. She couldn't see who it was or how close they were, but she hadn't heard anybody so far, so she was quite sure that this person was here for her. She suspected right after she heard that stupid captain. He knew her name. He bloody knew her name.
'Do you realize that I will remember every single thing you do that I don't like and that I will make you pay for them?' Not that she had the resources to do that right now, but she didn't care about that right now. At some point she would make him pay for what he did to her. No matter what it would cost her. There were very little people that came close to the hatred she already felt for this pirate. There were a few above him, but this was the first human that managed to capture and humiliate her and make her powerless. Only once she had felt this powerless and that was when her voice was taken away, but it turns out that was still better than being at the mercy of somebody that probably wanted you dead.
'I know you want me to guide you, but I will just tell you now that you can leave before even starting a conversation with me. I will not answer nor speak to you, unless you get rid of that fabric in front of my eyes.' Avyanna wanted to see him while he talked to her, that didn't seem like such a big issue. He would of course have to come close, but she was so tied up that she could barely move, so she wasn't even dangerous to approach at the moment. She just wanted to look him in the eyes while he tried to get her to help him get that treasure, because obviously that was what this was about. In somebody's eyes one could see whether that person was lying or not and she needed that if she would have a conversation with him. And also it would be fun to see if she could get him to free her from the ropes so she could tear out his heart.

Obviously she was not in the mood to talk. How could she be? She was captured by pirates, she was out of her natural habitat. The water that gave her power, was taken away from her. She wasn’t able to use her powers to get out and the ropes were probably painful and she couldn’t see a thing. If he would be in her place, he wouldn’t be that happy either. No wonder she was lashing out and threatening him.
‘Of course, I didn’t expect anything less from a powerful siren like yourself. It’s actually marveling me that you haven’t figured out yet how you can free yourself from the ropes. Certainly one of my men has come in her to see how you were doing? Or maybe, they are too scared for what you’ll do to them. We’ve all seen how strong you are.’ Garyn wasn’t an idiot. He very well knew that there was a high chance that she would do everything in her power to kill him. Although, that might be too easy for her. She would probably want to kill him very slowly. He just had to persuade her into not doing so.
‘Well, that seems fair.’ Even though she was strong, she obviously wasn’t able to get out of the ropes. She couldn’t hurt him and only her eyes would not be enough to gain control over his mind and body. Garyn grabbed his set of keys and searched for the right one. When he found it, he unlocked the cell. Slowly, and carefully, he walked over to Avyanna. He reached for his small knife and stood behind her. He put the fabric between his fingers to pull it tight. With his knife, he cut it into two separate pieces. She was now able to see.
Garyn walked back and closed the cell behind him. He locked it again, making sure there was no way she was able to escape. ‘Now that you can see, you might be interested in how I found out who you are?’ Even though he hadn’t seen her facial expression, he knew she didn’t like it that he had more information on her.
‘I do like the name tho, Avyanna. Did you know it means something in the line of beautiful woman? Now, you’re not really an ordinary woman, but beautiful you are. If we ignore the nails and the teeth, of course.’ Those weren’t really that attractive.
Garyn grabbed an empty barrel and turned it to the side, so he could sit on it. He crossed his arms and waited patiently for what she would say. She still seemed pretty hostile, so it wouldn’t surprise him if she would unload her anger onto him.

'If I could get out of these ropes, your men would've been even more useless than they appear to be. But no, I can't get out, if that's what you wanted to hear.' Even if she was able to get out of the ropes, it wouldn't change her situation at all. Her hearing was keen enough to be able to hear a lock, so after they threw her in here, she knew that they had locked her up somewhere. Not to mention that she had a tail and would never be fast enough on a ship to get out before one of the pirates spotted her. It was unfortunate, but for now she had to deal with the fact that she was pretty much powerless. For now.
She heard that same lock again and she could feel the wood vibrate slightly, after which the fabric in front of her eyes disappeared. Apparently Garyn had decided to fulfill her request, what a gentlemen. He left the cel she was in again, because she had been right about the locking up part, but before she would answer him, she was inspecting her surroundings. Everything was wood and iron around her, it was even pretty dark except for some torches that the pirates had lit. They needed to stay the hell away from her with those. She focused on them for a while, trying to see how one could get rid of the fire without touching it, but she didn't see a solution right away. The bars on her cage were of another problem, but just as big. They looked to be solid iron, she would never get out of those, even if she could claw or bite at them. Her teeth weren't that strong. Or rather, her teeth never had to be that strong because humans were just very weak.
'It also means strength and powerful,' she looked at him and raised one of her eyebrows. So he knew her name, that was a minor setback, but she would have to go with him.
'I guess you figured out what happened to my voice, but did you find why the humans decided to enlist a bloody witch to help them out? Or does your precious history not tell you such things?' She was curious to see what kind of information he found about her, if it was consistent with what actually happened all those years ago. Probably not. Humans liked to make up stories, change them, twist them until only a small part of the truth remained. It was what they always did and what they would always do, Garyn and his men would be no different. If they were ever going to tell somebody that they captured a siren, they would claim that the fight had been twice as long and that they had lost many good men. Or the exact opposite, that it cost them nothing and it was really easy to capture her. Whatever they thought would make them look better. She had no doubt they would find a way to tell people about this great accomplishment of theirs.

‘So your name is very fitting,’ he concluded. She was strong and powerful. He had already noticed that. As well as beautiful. He wondered if the sirens knew, since they had a different language then he was used to. He noticed it while talking to her. Not only her accent, but also in the words she used. They were not the most difficult ones, and she was speaking a bit slow.
‘Well, I don’t really possess any form of tales written by your “people”, so you’ll understand that I only have the information written by humans. Which means they only tell their side of the story. So, what I’ve read is that you were described as some sort of plague. One who would lure many people to the shore. Sailors, pirates, but also hard working men and women. Children even. It’s no surprise that they wanted to get rid of you. And as I see it, finding a witch who would want to help them, was the lesser of two evils.’ Humans weren’t a big fan of witches, but it was safe to say that they had hated Avyanna even more.
‘But I did read that your voice was taken by the witch, at least your singing voice. Obviously, you’re still able to talk. But you must want your full powers back?’ That was the one thing he could offer her. Not really, of course. He didn’t know the witch. The women had probably died a long time ago, so it was impossible to track her down and find her, let alone convince her to reverse the spell. But he needed to offer Avyanna something.
‘What if I told you I could find out a solution for your little curse? I have access to many books, I have met many people. There must be someone who knows a witch or two who is powerful enough to help you gain back your singing voice. After you’ve helped me with the treasure, of course.’ He cocked his head a little, while waiting for her answer. ‘It’s the only way you’ll get out here alive.’

Yes, her name suited her, but she'd known that long before he figured out what her name was and what it meant. She wasn't sure what he tried to achieve by talking about her name, but she wasn't sure she cared either. Humans always had an agenda, they wanted stuff and to get it, they talked about other stuff. It was confusing. Sirens were easier, they didn't do double meanings, no they just ate whoever opposed them. Perhaps a bit more savage than what humans did, but it was certainly more fun.
He kept talking about what he had read about her and she smiled. Those were the days. She had been so feared by humans and revered by her own sisters, she missed it. Most of all she missed the fear in the eyes of her victims, they wanted to come to her but somewhere deep down they knew they wouldn't live to see another day.
'They started calling me the scourge of the sea after I managed to take down an armada, not much time went by after that before there was a witch on my tail. So sad that humans can't fight their own battles. It reminds me a little of you, you're not able to get what you want, so you have to find somebody who can help you. Sad, really.' What came next, however, was much more interesting to her than anything else he had said so far. He thought he could help her find a cure to her problem. Of course he wasn't entirely right about the nature of the curse, if he was he would know that she could still sing beautifully, it just didn't have any magic left. Avyanna wasn't going to tell him that, though, first she needed to know more about this deal he was trying to make with her.
'You're not the first human I encounter Garyn and all of you are the same. Pathetic liars. Whether or not I'm interested in this proposition of yours doesn't matter, because I won't be able to trust you on your word. You say that deal is the only way I'll leave here alive, but I'm supposed to take your word for it that after I help you get that treasure, you will help me get my magic back? After you didn't even trust my word that I would be nice?' Didn't matter if she meant that or not, he didn't give her the chance to prove that she would play nice with the pirates, so she was now throwing it back in his face. Obviously she still would've bitten anybody that tried to come close and they both knew that, but he couldn't prove it and that was the whole case. Avyanna wasn't one to lie, she almost never did, but she also didn't always tell the truth. For her there was a big difference, others didn't always see it that way.

She called him sad. Sad, because he needed help in getting what he wanted. It was true that he needed some aid, but he wouldn’t say that it made him weak or sad. It was simply admitting that he valued his own life, and that of his crew, more than the risk of losing so many in a journey. ‘I think there can be found much strength in admitting you need help,’ he spoke, rather philosophical.
Garyn was rather a mused with the siren in front of him. She clearly wanted to provoke him. She was searching for something to make him doubt his words, to misspeak. She wanted him to say something that she could use against him. However, Garyn thought of himself as a rather smart man who couldn’t fall for her tricks that easy.
‘Oh, because I should have trusted the word of a magical siren? A creature who is famous for tricking men into thinking they have found redemption, but only to find out that they have looked their killer in their eyes?’ She wasn’t an idiot. She must know that no one would ever trust a siren blindly. So of course he hadn’t believed her when she had promised to be nice.
‘But, I see your point. You want to know if you can trust me. If I would keep my word after I found the treasure. And even before all that, you want to know how I managed to find out how to help you.’ Well, he didn’t Not exactly. He knew a lot of women, on land and on the seas. Some were witches, some were just mere gifted women. But, he was quite sure he knew someone who could help Avyanna regain her powers. He just didn’t know who.
‘I have many connections, you see. I know a few witches here and there. And luckily for you, not all witches agree with the humans and their decisions. I bet I can find one who is actually happy with the work that you and your siren-friends are doing out here. So she must find it in her heart to help a poor siren like yourself.’ It was a lie, just like she had already predicted. Garyn wasn’t sure at all if he could fine someone to help with Avyanna’s curse, but he had to at least make it look like he could.
‘But all with all, you’re right. We don’t have any sort of foundation to base our trust on. But I think we should give it a try anyway. What’s the worst thing that can happen?’

Avyanna couldn't help herself and she started laughing when he asked what the worst was that could happen.
'Well, I could eat you and your entire crew and sink your ship, or you could kill me. It obviously depends on who you're rooting for, but I would guess those are the worst things that could happen!' What a stupid question that was to begin with. Not that it mattered, she needed to reign in her arrogant behaviour and start working with the guy, or she would never get away from this place. She needed to make a deal with him.
'Alright, we can give it a go, but I'm sure you have demands and if you don't, I certainly do. First and foremost you're not keeping me locked in here, I get that you can't trust me, but if you want my help you're going to chain me somewhere to the ship where I can feel the sun on my skin. And no more blindfold and get that damn muzzle of off me. You can chain the rest of my body up however you like and I'm sure your crew can stay the hell away from my teeth, or are they really that stupid?'
Did she have more demands? She had said the most important ones, because she was very much done by laying in the dark completely tied up and humiliated. However, there was one more thing they needed to agree on.
'I assume you know the way to get to the treasure and you only need me to get past the siren infested waters? While we aren't there yet, you're going to figure out who exactly can help me get my voice back. You better find out who it is before we get to all those sirens, because if you don't know how to help me by then, I won't help you either.' And that was the deal she was giving him. He would not get a better deal, because if he refused this and wanted to keep her locked in the brick, she wouldn't help him. And she certainly wouldn't help him if he didn't even put time and effort into finding a witch that could help her get her voice back.
'In addition, if you keep your word and I do get my voice back, I will promise that you and your crew will not be harmed by me. I will go on a rampage, but as long as you are on your ship with your men, no siren will come for you. Do we have a deal?'

Even though she didn’t seem fluent in the language, she had no problem with expressing her demands and wishes. They were perfectly clear and he actually liked that she knew what she wanted. However, he was a pirate and he would never agree that easily. He would always make sure he would take the better end of the deal. But it was nonetheless very entertaining to watch her bargain like she did.
‘You know how to bargain,’ he praiserd her. Her terms for the deal seemed only fair. At least, most of them did. She wanted something in exchange. She would only help him if he’d know who could break her curse. He would need to find out who could help her in order for her to trust him. He needed a name. He could giver her any name, really. But when she would discover he had been lying, the rampage she had mentioned would be focused on him and his men. That was something he wanted to prevent.
‘I’ll make sure I have a witch he can help break the curse,’ he promised her. ‘And I accept your offer: when you have your voice back, me and my crew are safe.’ No siren would harm them. Those were her words and he would make sure she would keep them. And if indeed no siren would ever harm them again, he could sail the seas freely and even hide his own treasures in places no other pirate could ever go.
‘But I’m not so keen on keeping you on the deck, where my men can be easily… Manipulated. Especially if we lose the blindfold or the muzzle. You’re smart, you understand my hesitation, right?’ If he would leave her out in the sun, on the deck, she would be among his working crew. Even with her eyes alone she could lure them and make them do terrible things. She had already showed him how powerful she was and to just leave her out there, with more freedom, it would only cost him more men.
‘However, I am willing to offer you a compromise.’ She wanted sun. She wanted more than the slammer she was in. ‘I want to offer you a room. One with windows, so you can enjoy a little bit of sun now and then. But far away enough from my crew, so you won’t be able to persuade them.’
He kneeled in front of the bars. ‘Those are my terms. If you accept them, we have a deal.’
